500 USD for my first and perhaps only Busse

Considering the knives you already own, I'll add one more vote for ASHBM!

The two responses above mine say it all....

Exactly. For when the SHTF. Or "bugging in", which I would always prefer over bugging out, of course. Personally I cannot imagine a SHTF-scenario like The Walking Dead or that we all need to live like medieval farmers for years, but I can imagine some week-long riots or a (couple of) month(s) of surviving after a fiat-currency collapse for example. Perhaps a weird and embarrassing subject this is, but this is my honest reply. I hope I don't get ridiculed for it. I can easily imagine we all live happily ever after and nothing collapses or happens, I'm just taking into account, that maybe, perhaps, there is a chance, our fiat-currency system, the euro or the entire EU for that matter will collapse in the coming decades... I've seen the riots in London and Paris on the news, which are both around the corner and of course the Katrina Aftermath, which really opened my eyes and made me start thinking about a little bit of prepping. (Further, I studied history: rioting is not something new; here just an overview of the ones in London for example.)

If I would be richer, I would try to get a Custom Kill Devil Sniper Hawk in INFI if possible.

I think TGLB, NMSFNO are the choice here. If you have to use the knife to combat, the NMFSH is too heavy to swing, not fast enough.
I think the above two are well suited for almost anything you may encounter.

If you just want an awesome Busse knife for the hell of it, the ASHBM is the way to go. Factory pricing and the configuration that you want are both big pluses. If you aren't actually going to be backpacking with it for days or weeks, the weight isn't an issue. In your situation I can't see the reason to get a smaller blade. In almost any other case I would say get a NMSFNO......or just wait for the next Ganza and see what is being offered.

Another vote for ASHBM. Users sometimes pop up on the Exchange for under $500.

If you think you might be traveling with a big knife, and weight will be a consideration, then go with a Basic. The new Basic 8 for $400 resale, or wait for a user Basic 9 for about the same

For what you are wanting the blade for.... Basic 8 or 10.

It's gonna be spending time in the house a LOT more than it will be out of it. The B8 is thin, light and sharp enough for LOTS of USE in the kitchen, but ready for the worst case scenario if you need it. It may be an easier sell to the GF if SHE can use it too AND you saved some cash for a nice night on the the town (and a quality sheath). By using it in the kitchen, you get your money's worth out of it, you're constantly handling/familiarizing yourself with it and if you maintain it after every use, it will be SCREAMING SHARP when you NEED it!!!

All the Best,

Stump

From a user's persepective...Basic 8,9,10, or 11 if you ever do wish to wear it for any length of time.

For a heavier taste of INFI, the NMFSH with handshaped micarta would get my vote over the ASHBM simply because the NMFSH is so close to the FBMLE in size/weight/performance that blindfolded a guy could not tell he was using one or the other. The ASHBM handle is super comfortable to hold, but the straightness of it works against you when chopping. Both are great blades, but the win for comfort in use goes to the fusion handle design.

I haven't taken many pics the past couple of years so sadly I don't have a user comparison shot uploaded for you.

The SFNO Le is hands down my favorite Busse.

To me, it is the perfect mix between utility and ability to chop stuff up.
The SFNO is good as a one tool option.
In my opinion, the bigger knives call for a back up, and then the ball is rolling:D

ASHBM. Mine feels lighter in hand than my Bushwhacker mistress.

However, having a knife that is used ALL the time, kitchen etc. Will be better in the long run as you will be familiar with it, and of course....

No safe queens.

This is very useful information thank you very much!

ASHBM or NMFSH.

TGLB and Basics and other smaller blades are cool but, if it may be your only one, get a beast of a Busse. The ASHBM is an extremely awesome blade and if I had to select a single fixed blade to keep from my knife collection, the ASHBM would be it.:thumbup:

Thanks! I don't know your collection but why would you pick it over an NMFSH or any other Busse that you have, if I may ask? Do you own and/or have you used other BM's?

+1 on the ASHBM comfort in chopping. The knife is awesome, but for me when I got to chopping with it my pinky did not appreciate it at all. The handle thickness also was a bit much for me, my hand would get tired after swinging for a few minutes and the knife then becomes prone to dropping it. For me fusion handle is the best fit with zero pinky bite, and not a hint of trying to get out of hand. I have swung my NMFBM for long periods of time choping through 8-12 " logs with zero feeling of fatigue. I also have had the NMFSH with hand shaped scales, it was a bit too thick, but definitely could be tweaked to be comfortable. IMHO that is better than ASHBM in how it feels in hand.

I have not used any basics but the B8, so I can't really comment, but I trust Tim knows his stuff and his recommendation is very solid.

I would add a Basic 7 to the list. Which one you choose would depend on anticipated uses and perhaps concealability too (in a bugout situation). The Basic handle is superb for comfort, both the shape/size and material.

I would also recommend the Scrap Yard x11 series (711, 911, 1111 & 1311). They have the same excellent handles as the Basics and a great steel too (although it is more prone to rust than INFI).

Any of the above would be a good choice!

The logo knife, HHFSH or an SFNO LE. Check them, grab one of them, and you will not be disappointed.

I'd go with ASHBM. Price at Busse site is USD 487 plus shipping (around USD 55). But don't forget the tax, that could double the price of your knife, at least this is the situation in my Country.

I prefer thin INFI over the fatties so would opt for the NMSFNO as best all rounder.
