.50cal Hawken mod

Yeah, cops usually dont know much about the law:cool:;)

Muzle loaders are listed the same as air rifles, non guns, thats why theres no ffl forms.

They are not guns, or at least not listed as guns state or federal.

Not secret info, look it up.

My gun would fall under an antique firearm (18.2-308.2:2). Did a bit more digging, I completley over looked the whole part about a "self-contained cartridge" in the definition of a sawed off shotgun.

No it doesn't, it falls under muzzle loader, it may be listed under that code in Virginia, but antique firearms still have self contained cartridges.

It doesn't fall under any of the firearm codes, its not per the federal government a gun, may as well shoot plastic pellets.

glad you didn't break your hand when you shot it. Would have thought 100 grns would have kicked like hell, but the barrel is pretty short..

And the courts have given the green light to police not needing to actually know the law that they seek to enforce. They're now allowed to say that they didn't know what the law said, or didn't say, and the ticket or arrest is justified on the basis of being a reasonable mistake on their part. It's all in the Heien decision.

that's horse shit and you know it, not any where near the same thing other than some bullshit to hate on cops and LE in general.

that's a traffic code, the supreme court didn't give anybody a green light to do anything.

he got stopped because the cop couldn't tell or didn't know that the car was pre 55, and then consented to a search with cocaine in his car. Now hes a martyr because he took his case all the way to the Supreme Court, he's a douche bag that didn't want to go to jail or end up with a felony record.

the trick to not getting arrested, don't do stupid illegal shit, and you don't have to worry about it. I've went over 40 years doing all kinds of stupid shit (just not illegal) and don't have a criminal record, why, because I'm not a criminal.

Its odd but most of the people that do get arrested actually did something to get arrested, its not the Oh I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time bullshit that you hear. The were doing something illegal, and got caught and deserved to go to jail..

JMO, YMMV

Every time I have been arrested, I certainly deserved it.

Yeah. Keep telling yourself that the system works just as intended.

In virginia they consider it an antique firearms http://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter7/section18.2-308.2:2/

My wrist is definitley a bit stiff after shooting it yesterday one handed. The difference in recoil between a 80 and 100 grains isn't very noticeable. Which makes me think that most burnt up outside the barrel.

You can estimate the maximum charge you can burn by shooting it over a white bedsheet. The unburned powder will be apparent. And too, the max that you can burn is not always the most accurate load. And that depends a lot on the projectile type you use. A patched round ball (with wrong patch to rifling depth) will not grip the rifling and impart the proper stabilizing spin. But you may have a faster sabot of lead slug twist rifling. Of course if you are just after smoke and noise all of that is moot.

Well I tried with 50, 80, and 100 grains. They all seem to hit consistantly to the right

So, how much is the expungement gonna cost you:cool:, and you keep telling yourself that it was undeserved.

I'm not the one facing criminal charges for letting my kid walk to and from the park unsupervised. Or arrested for DUI with a 0.0 BAC at the time. Or for possessing an illegal gravity knife because it can be wrist flicked open.

Many others are, however. And it takes yeas of going through hell for the matter to be resolved properly.

Mine is gonna cost $3000

That wasnt toward you, ive read some of your posts, glad you are getting your life straight, good luck.

Im not trying to be sarcatic at all, you seem like a good guy just some bad decisions, but taking respnsibility for your actions is the first step. Stay straight:thumbup:

I know, just being a smartass.

Drugs/alcohol are behind every ride I've taken in the backseat.

Odd idea of hell. Read the entire case file before you jump on the cops suck bandwagon.
0.0 bac doesnt mean he was sober, wait till the urine test comes back and see whats in his system.

Back on topic, how did you get the pin to stay, bend or wedge?

If I wanted to jump on the cops suck bandwagon, I'd quote the member here who told us about the time he was beaten with a phone book while being handcuffed to a chair, and told by the cops higher up in the food chain of command that the only reason his complaint was going to be investigated at all, was because he was from a military family.

This is just to let INFK know that he could still easily wind up arrested until the matter is sorted out. If some guy in DC can be convicted for illegal possession of ammunition, when it was muzzle loading bullets that he had, never assume black powder won't be questioned.

What powder were you using? I would recommend Hodgdon Triple 7 FFF, starting with a mild load and working up. Looks like a fun project.

Current progress. Stained with general finishes java and have removed a portion of the brass trigger/handle. Plan on using a general finish semi gloss poly

I know it's been awhile since a posting in this thread. But I've been inspired once again. So here it what I've been done.

First I sanded and stained the stock again to make the grain pop.

Then I added a musket nipple because the other no.10 nipples were way too soft and kept mushroom heading.

I recently started getting into blacksmithing so im going to forge a trigger guard.

Did you have the barrel crowned? If not, it may be something to try yourself. May not be perfect but good education and it's not a match rifle so little to lose. Plus, save yourself some $$.

Makes me want a Howdah from Cabela's :-)
