Did you have the barrel crowned? If not, it may be something to try yourself. May not be perfect but good education and it's not a match rifle so little to lose. Plus, save yourself some $$.

Makes me want a Howdah from Cabela's

I did crown the barrel myself and did an alright job. I think Dixie Gun Works has that Howdah in a kit for at least a $100 less than cabelas. That would be a sweet gun too have

If you want to go old school, get some rawhide (untanned) strips. Wet them thoroughly and wrap the barrel and forestock then stitch it tightly. It will shrink when it dries and becomes hard. The barrel won't go anywhere. This was a common fix for cracked wrists in stocks or as a preventative measure to avoid a cracked stock.
