5160 Ninjato/Chokuto Sword

Oh, there are videos on youtube showing experienced smiths using forges to heat treat forges. various traditional smiths in Japan and also That Works i think. just remember that colour correction will mean that the colours won't match what you'll see in person. look at how they move the sword and how the colours change in the sword

Thank you everyone for the tips and knowledge. The blade on this piece was about 26 inches. So, Stacy that is exactly what I did. Constant motion, paying more attention to the end than the middle since the middle is always closer to the heat. I had my assistant constantly checking with a magnet. I will consider a baffle, seems like a very easy way to get a little bit more consistent heat control inside the forge. My heat gun does come with a probe attachment also. Perhaps I can rig something up.

Wow, that is a nice looking sword. Did you make the tsuba and saya?

I did make the Saya, but not the Tsuba. Typically I make the Tsuka also, but this time I ordered one premade
