52100 For stock removal?

Look up "Young's Modulous" or "modulous of elasticity" if you want to really learn about flexability and hardness as it relates to steel. The short answer is, Salem and medicevans are correct... it's all about geometry.
 
Elastic limit is the phase I was looking for. Thanks.

I have used a 3 point jig in the vise to bend a slip joint spring a little bit, and it took a lot of force to move that little 3/32" stock spring. I can't imagine the force needed and the stored potential energy in bending a 3/16 stock knife!
