53X Love

I keep getting tempted by that REI green 531. Hopefully I'll have one to share in the near future.

You should go for it! You never know when the next 531 LE or exclusive will come around and S30V is a nice bump over 154CM for a small pocket knife steel.

I love the 530/531 series. I wish I could afford one of the Gold Series versions and I wish I knew about the CF/S30V REI versions. Tempted to grab the new REI version but I have enough knives for now in fact I am liquidating much of my collection. No 530/1's on the chopping block.

Here's an old picture with my OG 440C 530 from years ago, my current #1 EDC 531 and 530 I bought last year so I wouldn't loose my OG 440C. Got a back up 531 in the safe.

Awesome! I love seeing other 53X pics (They're rare around these parts :dispirited:) Keep 'em coming

I don't blame him, it's an attractive design :love-struck:

531 has been my go-to when carrying. My wallet goes in my front right pocket, and I carry at 4:30 on the right side, so I like the weight savings.

I like my 531 much more than I expected to. It is the easiest-opening Benchmade I have. Sometimes I can fully open it by just pulling back smartly on the Axis lock. My wife and I had a pair engraved by Benchmade with our initials and marriage year. Her's is partially serrated. I could not find it when I snapped this photo though.

 In keeping with the Fellowship of the 53x family, just got this one today. It's the REI special S30V/G10 531-1501. Yes the scales are green!

Sidenote: I'm picky. The fit and finish on this knife is excellent. Even bevels, centered, and I appreciate the slight increase of weight the G-10 scales offer. Sorry Benchmade, I don't need to send this one up for warranty service! :D

Nice! :thumbup::cool:

S30V was a nice bump, but I still would have preferred M390 or S90V.. I picked up a total of three -1501's.. Two are currently getting DLC treatment and the other is paired with my Grivory 530 scales.. I like that combo a lot. It's fun mixing & matching..

I just picked up my first 531 this week which is my first benchmade in a number of years. Get knife so far and could be the first of many in my future.

For the notebook; I've had my 531 REI version for a week now and would say this is the better descendant to the long lived 530. Now fully broken in, this knife is a keeper. One of the sharpest out of box I've ever received, this and it's cousin with the gray scales (and PM's beauties...) offer a lot for something that literally disappears in the pocket.

That was the epiphany I had that lead to the sale of half my BM collection lol.. I knew I would never use most of them again after realizing how perfect the 531 was..

Slim, lightweight, and very functional.. One of the best urban EDC's.

I give it ★★★★★

Agreed PM. Actually, my first Benchmade (from REI) maybe ten years ago, was a 530 in 440C. And yes, being an urban type it got carried more than any other knife.

I got to handle one of the REI versions today. I had the regular black/grey handled one, but sold it a while back. After handling the REI version, I really don't understand why I got rid of it. I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to easily access the thumbstuds, but the knife flew open every time. If I could fault it for anything, it would be the very thin handle might get a little uncomfortable if you had to use it all day.

All I know is, the decision between the 531 and the G-10 Mini Grip will be a hard one.

I used some 800 grit wet/dry paper to smooth the sharp edges on the handle which made it a bit more easy on the hand. Now after EDCing it for 2 years the G-10 has really smoothed out nicely.

Hi Everyone,

I just ordered a 531 this morning and decided to check with you guys here in Benchmade's forum for feedback about it. You know, do you like it, hate it, problems, etc. However, I did not really expect to find much about the 530 series. The photos have been great! Thanks everyone.

I EDC both the 530 and 531 a lot especially when wearing shorts, trail running and playing disc golf or any other time when I don't need an over built knife. I like the blade grind on the 531 and have EDC'd one for about 2 years kicking out a full size Ritter Griptilian with G-10 handles. The 531 is sturdy enough for urban day to day. The 530 is great for sports, the beach, and other times when you want an ultra light cutting tool.
Did you order a 154cm or s30v REI 531?
