I've often hosted give-aways when I hit post number milestones (e.g., 1000 posts, 3456 posts) or BF membership anniversaries (1-, 2-, 3-year). I knew I was nearing 5000 posts, and since my BF username is 5K Qs, I wanted to have a GAW to mark that milestone. I noticed today that 5K posts have come and gone (barely), so I'm posting this GAW thread.

For such an auspicious milestone , I want to try something different. My financial commitment to knives is rather low-budget; I typically allow myself about $30/month for knives, and usually buy about $100 worth of knives every 3 months or so. It's been a while since my last purchase, so I'm "due" for another buying spree, but I thought I'd forego that purchase and instead reserve the funds for this GAW.

Here's the basic idea. If you'd like to participate, post an entry listing up to $100 worth of knives (traditional folders only) you'd like to own. Post only the brands and models of the knives, not the prices and dealers! I'll randomly select a winner and contact the winner to make arrangements to purchase and ship the knives. So you pick knives (again, traditional folders only, please), and I'll pay for them, up to $100. You may pick 20 $5 knives or 10 $10 knives (that's my quarterly purchase habit ;)) or 1 $100 knife, or any combination of knives with total purchase price ≤$100.

When you post your entry, please be as specific as possible in identifying the knives on your list: brand, model, handle material and color, blade shape, etc. If you can post "stock photos" of the knives, feel free to do so. And please verify that the knives on your list can actually be purchased currently for the prices you think they can! It might be good to have a list of prices/dealers on hand if you win so you can give me pointers on where to buy the knives listed in your entry.

I plan to let this GAW run until 6pm EST on Black Friday 11/24/17. Have fun thinking up a list, and best wishes to all the entrants!:D I hope it will be almost like Christmas in December!!

Thanks for the chance!

Edit to change: If possible, a GEC 78 with desert ironwood scales. Runners up would be a 78 in cocobolo or a 35 in hummingbird acrylic.

Interesting giveaway. I just spent 20 minutes looking at the edc stag 35's. That would be a good choice for me. Congrats on 5k!

GEC Desert Ironwood 78 single blade would make for a mighty fine Christmas gift for me!

Very generous giveaway - congratulations on 5k posts and thanks for the chance!

Wow what a generous offer. I always enjoy seeing all your post. You always are giving everyone encouragement and nice compliments.
Here is my list.

Congrats on 5k post. What a milestone.

I've received enough generosity, but it will be fun to make a list.
Carbon opinel #6 / w sheath combo
Merc k55

Army case mini blackhorn #15010 ( hope it's traditional enough )

Congrats on the milestone GT, you're great and I don't think you've ever made a post that wasn't worth making.

This is quite generous, GT. I have 3 that are on my "wish list" that fit in the criteria: A. Wright 6" Woodcarving Knife (SKU KS-3410) with 2.5" carbon lambfoot blade, dark chocolate buffalo handle, 3 3/8" closed; Maserin Cutlery Plow sodbuster (PE2005) with 3 5/16" D2 drop point blade, Bocote wood handle, 4 1/8" closed; Opinel No.8 with 3 1/4" 12c27 Sandvik blade, olive wood handle, 4 5/16" closed.
Thanks.

image.jpg Holy cow GT this offer of yours is generous and heartwarming. It is an inspiring way to mark the milestone.
I just gotta put my name in the hat:)
I have been eyeing (with my part German eye) the German Eye Brand Hammer Forged carbon steel three blade whittler, 3 1/4" closed. And an American Mutt sharpening stone from a dealer member here.

Very generous and exciting GAW !
Put me in coach :)
Gec#81 natural Micarta is on my wish list.

Congrats on the milestone 5K!

While I would love to participate in the GAW considering the 5K for 5K coolness, I just really really like it when a knife I try to win is chosen by the giver... if that makes sense. I honestly have all the knives I want (except for a nice elephant toenail and every bladeforum knife) and so it is the sentimental value of a knife that someone else selected to give that motivates me. All of which is a long and awkward way of saying, thanks for the opportunity, but this is not an entry.

Cool giveaway!

It would be cool to have a GEC #54 in the cougar claw bone or brazilian cherry wood.

Congratulations on the milestone my friend, I think we all enjoy your posts here :) You have been a great addition to The Porch, always kind and generous in every way, not least in this imaginative giveaway. I have far too many knives, but have long-admired the £5 Zorro Barlow you occasionally post a pic of, so if I may, I'll throw my hat in for one of these :) Look forward to your next 5K GT

For some reason, my thumb and fingernails have been getting weaker. Maybe I need more calcium or something. Anyway, because of this, I've been increasingly interested in small lockbacks or slipjoints that can be pinched (except those with easy-open cutouts - I think they're ugly).

One knife that's been burning a hole in my brain is the Boker Plus "Decade Edition" lockback. 3 5/8" closed, stainless liners and bolsters, and carbon fiber scales. And VG-10 steel, which is one of my favorites. I couldn't find any in stock by dealers that support Bladeforums, but it can be found on eBay for under $60. Otherwise, I'll happily accept a Case Mini Copperlock in red bone and CV.

If I win this most generous giveaway, I'll just take the one knife, and leave the remaining amount from the $100 for a 2nd winner at the host's discretion.

Thanks GT, and good luck to everybody.

Both inventive and generous GT!:)

I'd like to be in the frame please. My choice is a Schatt&Morgan Carpenter's Whittler in Elk, it comes in just under your price ceiling. Should I be fortunate enough to win, I'll pay the overseas postage.

Thanks, Will

I would love a Gec ebony churchill

Or a a.wright&son lambfoot with horn scales

Thank you for hosting this give-away
Great idea!

Very generous! Congrats on your milestone. I would chose:

Opinel #7
Case 3318 PU CV Yellow stockman with punch
Victorinox Compact Plus

My current want list!

Very generous indeed. I've done a few GAWs, but never gone out to buy something new to GAW.
Not in, because I've gone off of what would have been my choice and I don't want to go looking for something else to need.
Good luck to all.
