The pineapple is the best I could think of to justify the Vaquero Grande. You need a long blade to make the slice. The recurve facilitates the slicing action. The serrations are just the ticket for cutting off the husk. The AUS-8 steel is good for corrosion resistance (nice when working with acidic foods in a kitchen environment.)
If you don't eat pineapple, substitute home made bread.
For a bit of obligatory Spyderco content, I'll mention that as I'm typing this I'm eating an apple I peeled, cored and sliced with my wonderfully sharp, flat ground Calpyso Jr. BM. The thin, tapered blade is excellent for slicing apples without splitting them. It's not the best for peeling and paring, though, because the blade is a bit too wide. I generally prefer a narrower blade and a straghter handle for paring. So it's a toss-up between the Calypso Jr. and the Benchmade Leopard Cub I often carry.
