So my parents told me I could get another knife as soon as I got my grades up again.(If you are wondering im 16) Since I fund my addiction, my limit is $60 for this purchase. What folding knife do you guys think is good for that range?? Im personally thinking about getting the spyderco dragonfly. Im trying to stay away from kershaw this time so I can branch out in brands a bit. So anything is welcome!!!! :)

Thanks guys!!

Wally

The dragonfly is an awesome little knife! I am a big fan of the entire spyderco "salt" line. I have a serrated pacific salt and tasman. I have some much higher end knives but these are two of my favorites. The dragonfly also has a salt version. If you aren't familiar with serrated edge h1, do a bit of research and see how it compares to its plain edged counterpart and other serrated edge steels. It's some seriously high performance stuff. And the dfly in se is like a mini pocket chainsaw. :D

Or you can just ignore my whole "salt" rant and get a plain ole dragonfly. You'll be happy. It's a great knife in all of it's many iterations.

Spyderco cat around 30 bucks. I have a few knives that are several hundred dollars and I love my cat!

You're safe if you stick to the Spydercos for now. Whatever you choose will be a good knife. It can get confusing out there in that price range and Spyderco is a safe place to be. This stuff can be addicting and consuming.

Or, you're only 16 with your whole life ahead of you.....you can turn back nooowwwwww......

Just a thought why not get a sak like the champ . you will get more than just a blade for your money

I just got a dragonfly and I highly recommend picking one up. Awesome little big knife!!

I love my Dfly. If you want to go high-end steel I believe the Manbug and Ladybug in Super Blue are in your price range. I am waiting with baited breath for the Kershaw Emerson CQC-6k. Also check out Cold Steel's Code 4. If you want to give a fixed blade a try an Izula by Esee.

I'm not going to talk you out of a Dragonfly 2, that's for sure. Why don't you give us some basic details about what you prefer. Smaller blade, longer blade, any lock preferences? Have you considered a Benchmade Mini-Grip? You should be able to score one the forums for $60.

The Dragonfly is a cool little folder, especially the H1 version with its bright yellow handle (too many black handles out there, it's nice to have some colour). I find the blade a bit too short for some of my daily cutting needs, and prefer a minimum of 3".

Other Spydercos under $60 are the UKPK (non locking) and Squeak. If you could find an extra $10, then definitely go for a Delica.

Since I just got over my cheapo knife phase im trying out about everything in knives that I learn about. Im left handed so things like lockbacks are a lot nicer feeling to me then linerlocks and framelocks. I like the spydercos salt line myself because I spend a lot of time near water. Im gonna get the chance to go to Oregon city for spring break so I get to visit benchmades place there. Before I digress anymore, all my prefrences are right now are that the knife is lefty friendly and doesnt rust in wet conditions. Thanks for the help guys, it is much appriciated!!!!

Went through the list of knives I own, looking for things $60 and less that I felt I would particularly recommend (excluding Kershaw, my favorite knife company, per your request) and I would recommend you check into the following...

Esee Izula 1 - This is a fixed blade, not a folder. I started out only interested in folders, but I have found that small fixed blades like this are pretty cool, and this one is very highly rated. $45-$55.

Spyderco Tenacious - I'm personally not a hugh fan of Sypderco genrally (other than the Paramilitary 2, which is out of your price range), only because I generally find the width of the blade with the Spyderhole is too wide in my pocket, but I have both the Dragonfly and Tenacious and although the Dragonfly has better steel, it is quite small, so I would recommend the Tenacious instead, very highly rated generally. $35-$45.

Ontario Rat 1 - Not a very 'sexy' looking knife, which stopped me from buying one for a long time, but feels EXCELLENT in the hand and the manual opening is EXCELLENT. Very highly rated generally and inexpensive enough to allow an additional purchase. $30-$35. Knifeworks.com has the best selection of these that I have seen, though it appears to be rapidly dwindling after I mentioned that in another thread.

SOG - Generally, I think their knives are a bit overpriced (though nowhere near as bad as Benchmade), but I seem to find I prefer SOG's for EDC. Two within your price range are the Flash I, which is quite small, but I believe it is definitely the best knife available in that size range, and the size makes it easy to carry without even knowing it is there (and no joke, I lost mine for a couple days, then found it was clipped to my pocket and I found I was clipping another knife next to it!). $32-$38. Another larger SOG option would be the Mini Aegis. $42-$53.

Chinese - Probably a controversial recommendation, but if you'd like to get a few knives, both Ganzo and Enlan Bee in China produce a number of very nice knives in the $20.00 range.

So... my post is probably not making your decision easier, but the research is part of the fun!

Go old school pick up an carbon steel traditional slipjoint, like a sodbuster, canoe, stockman, pen knife, peanut, trapper, etc. Personally a Case Canoe is on my list as well as a Queen Country Cousin or Queen Copperhead though you may need to reprofile the last 2 when you get them. The last 2 are D2, unless you pick up the City Copperhead which is 2 bladed and 1095 carbon steel off hand.

You may be pleasantly surprised when you pick up an old school slipjoint as they typically have slimmer blades which make it far easier to cut things with.

As a fellow Lefty I appreciate your dilemma. Like I said earlier I love my Dfly, but if it seems a bit small Go for the Delica or Salt 1 If your afraid of corrosion. If I were you i would actually save up for that Oregon trip and get a Griptilian or better. As far as I'm concerned the Axis lock was created for us southpaws.

Doing a quick search I just found a dfly salt, salt 1, and pacific salt all for $60 or under. I like larger folders so my personal favorite is the pacific salt but they are all great! Like I said, I recommend at doing a bit of research and at least considering se when looking at the h1 salts. I never cared for se knives but I have owned several of the serrated salts now and I love them! They are awesome knives. Nothing wrong with the pe versions, but the se is special.

Edit: I exaggerated. Actually the pacific salt I saw was $62. :)

Ill keep that in mind!! Does anyone else make knives like the salt series? Benchmade has a dive knife, the H2O, right?
