$60 is my limit

Great to hear from someone else who started knife collecting at a young age. I started at about thirteen, but I just started for real a few months ago at 21. I love my Dragonfly. It cannot be beat by another knife of its size.

Any Spyderco will be very good and enjoyable. First pops into mind is an Endura (I would almost add "of course" with that). But you could also go for a 25 USD Ontario RAT 1 and buy a Victorinox e.g. a Climber and/or an Opinel with it :)

I started collecting on my 14th birthday. My parents bought me a cheapo butterfly knife trainer and I flipped it to death, then started looking around at other knives and found this place in the process. Now most my reading and learning is from here. Its the best!!!

I really like all those knives!!! Im still suprised I havent got a Victorinox yet but it will happen sometime!!! And every time I look at Opinels I end up looking at Douk-Douks as well. So I will probabally get bith those at once. I really havent given the RAT 1 much thought before... im gonna be doing some more research now that im thinking about it.

That is cheap!!! I liked what I saw with that. The only thing that killed me was the black g10 handles. I think what id like is that knife with some digicamo scales. Im still leaning toward the spydie still though. While I was looking I happened to remember seeing a new spyderco a while back (if my memory serves me correctly that is). Did anyone hear about a lockback kiwi with g10 scales??? It was the kiwi 4 I think.

Since I just got over my cheapo knife phase im trying out about everything in knives that I learn about. Im left handed so things like lockbacks are a lot nicer feeling to me then linerlocks and framelocks. I like the spydercos salt line myself because I spend a lot of time near water. Im gonna get the chance to go to Oregon city for spring break so I get to visit benchmades place there. Before I digress anymore, all my prefrences are right now are that the knife is lefty friendly and doesnt rust in wet conditions. Thanks for the help guys, it is much appriciated!!!!

Wally

Victorinox one handed sentinal can be had for under $30 and is exellent for lefties. I wanted it until i held one and found its a lefty knife. I saved $26 but it is a nice knife its not a bm or a spyderco but its not a flea market knife either.

Dragonfly is a superb choice. However, if your are not exclusively looking for a small blade, spyderco has some other great options. For an extra $10-12 you could get a manix 2 lightweight, and have a nice, large talon with a ball bearing lock.

Go to your local flea market, and look for a nice Camillus or Klein TL-29. Cheap and reliable, and it will probably have a lot more soul than a Dragonfly!

Ill keep that in mind!! Does anyone else make knives like the salt series? Benchmade has a dive knife, the H2O, right?

Wally

Yes, Benchmade makes a H2OAxis (N680/Yellor or Black Grivory)and a H2O Griptilian (N680/Orange Valox) both are over your budget (~$115) tho :( .

OMG! A 16 year old with the brains and taste to want a Dragonfly 2 instead of some 'roid-soaked mall ninja thingie? Excellent! Young brother...get it. You will absolutely NOT regret it. It is my grail knife...my truly everyday carry, and I wouldnt part with it for any other knife - period. Good choice! Just do it....

I'm 13, and here's my EDC:

Like you, I fund all of my own knives. In the $60 range, my favorite would be the Spyderco Manix 2 lightweight. It can be had for $50 used on the Exchange, or $65 new. The Spyderco UKPK is nice, too, if you don't mind it being a slipjoint.

@CJZ:
What do you mean by soul???

Wally

Lol, he is into traditional ye olde timey knives, he's just pushing what he likes. I'm sure his suggestions are great. Speaking about what I know, the DFly methinks is about as perfect a small pocket knife can be. May not be the most handsome but its usefulness makes up for it. Awesome little blade.

You won't be dissapointed by one of the FRN Spydercos. My collection consists of high end Spydies, ZT's, BM's, a couple CRK's and customs but the Endura/Delica/Stretch/DFly/Salts get plenty of carry and use. Slim, light, strong, good EDC steel... They often get the nod over my fancier knives, and it isn't for the sake of saving my more expensive pieces I like to use them all.

Hello,

If I had Sixty dollars to spend :

Opinel No. 6, 7 or 8

Svord Peasant

Mora Carbon (fixed blade)

Swiss Army Knife "Tinker"

and believe it or not, I was SHOCKED how good this knife is made considering it's price.
I talk to a guy at a Tire Store who has this knife and works it REALLY hard and says it works great.

You could buy ALL the above knives and still have some folding petty cash in your pocket.
