$600 to spend for a hard use American Made Folder what do you pick?

If your doing that kind of job with a folder, I'd go with something shorter and thick bladed. A MKT comes to mind.

A Praetorian T would probably do.
That prying falls outside what the warranty covers, but it would probably hold up to it okay.

Even with the Praetorian, I'd recommend a small crowbar.

You need a crowbar with an edge.....XM-18 or one of Medfords offerings perhaps?

Is this the one you mean?

Lead time is 12 to 15 months it says on there website! Thanks but I am nowhere near that patient.

You don't buy it from them, you buy it from one of the many, many knife stores that have them in stock.
You can have it by the end of the week if you start shopping now.

Let's see...

  1. American-made
  2. Heavy duty
  3. No frame-locks
  4. Alloy scales
  5. Under $600
All signs point to the Dozier Workhorse:

Seriously Considered the Freeman 451 but multitude of videos showed weak detent when knife is closed and I did not like that.

Kind of tough finding "hard use" when looking for your consideration of a non frame lock.
But I believe the new gen Freeman has tightened up the detent.
Simple enough fix for Freeman Outdoor, just install a stouter spring under the button lock seeing as that's the detent.

Benchmade Adamas, and have Keyman or whoever make you some custom metal scales. The upside is if you FUBAR it, a replacement is only the cost of an Adamas, as the scales would be reusable.

If you want all metal and made in America I would look at Zero Tolerance.

Several new ones coming out at 300 or under. Great CS department and if you break a blade it's only 30 to replace it. I'm currently awaiting the Zero Tolerance 0920. Two that catch my eye also are the 0456 and the 0220

I know you said no frame locks.... but I love them lol

It has to be metal handles? 'Cause if you want hard use you should spend $600 on a used Demko.

Gotta agree with this. You won't be able to get a used AD10, but you can certainly find an AD15 for that price.

why not go for the cold steel 4max? just because you have the 600 doesn't mean you HAVE to spend the whole thing. I've owned a demko ad10 before and while awesome is not worth the secondary prices and his wait is YEARS direct
