MOHD'S 666TH POST IN BLADEFORUMS 02/20/2001
... on the blade of that "something special"?

I still don't have any idea on any kind of the "something special" ... I'll see ... and insyaa-Allaah! I'll email Pakcik Bill later!

Any suggestion? Please ...

I have been studying the book of Revelation lately. Creepy stuff but important to my faith. I would suggest a tarwar.

rkenny,
While they aren't a technical study of the book of Revelations I highly recommend reading the "Left Behind" books. The books make a very entertaining read for anyone willing to read them and do a good job of presenting the end times as the author believes it will happen. Leef

This is a bit odd.

You may have been in that world before.
You survived it before.

I read rkenny's posting ...

... so I guessed that 666 may means something which I don't have any knowledge about it --- I checked 666 in Altavista --- I don't really understand it but 666 seems to have connection with Satan, Armagadeon, Lucifer and Music Groups!

Bro Rusty!
Have you any idea on 666? Are you still tiptoeing and keep a good watch on my back? I guess I need some good explaination here!

Bro Yvsa!
Would you please send up some smoke for me?

Forumites!

Anyhow, I guess Tarwar is something!

Mohd,

In the christain beleif 666 is thought to be the number of the devil, satan, lucifer or whatever you want to call him. This idea comes from somewhere int the book of revelation. The number 666 is also tought to be bad luck because of it's tie to the underworld.

666=bad
777=good

I don't make make the stuff up, I just report what I remember.

Mohd,
In Christianity the number 666 is significant. The last book of the New Testament of the Holy Bible is the Revelation, written by the Apostle John from his exile on the island of Patmos. The Book of Revelation is a vision of the end of the world that was given to him by Jesus. In the vision John sees the events that are both real and symbols of the final judgement of man by God. One of the events leading up to this is the appearance of the Beast, or Satan along with the Anti-christ and the False Prophet, who are parodies of the Divine Trinity of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They decieve mankind by imitating the divine Trinity. All followers of the Beast take his mark. Only those who bear the mark are free from persecution on this Earth. "He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to recieve a mark on their hand or on their foreheads. And that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the Beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666." Revelation Chapter 13 Verses 16-18. There is much speculation and disagreement as to the exact interpretaion of the entire book of Revelation. There are many, and most are at least partitally valid. The true meaning may never be understood until it has occured. Revelation is a book couched in symbols and symbolism. 666 is the symbol of the Beast or Satan. I hope this clears up your questions some. You can email me if you would like more information. I recommended Tarwar just because I like it, it was purely arbitrary. If John's Revelation is believed, nothing short of Jesus will save you. Does 666 have another or different significance in your faith?

The other posts explained it pretty well. The book of Revelation was written during a time of oppression, and everyone in that day knew the allegorical meanings of the symbols they used. More than 1500 years have past and no one can say whether it's meant to warn the early church againt the then Roman empire, or the future, or both.

Any way, it's confusing and as to how much is sybolic and how much is to be treated as the
stone cold truth - is anybody's guess.

The number is either looked upon by the Jews as the number of man ( falling short of perfection - 7 is the number for God and it falls short of the number 3 times : 6/6/6). Or, as Matt and rkenny explained, the number of the Beast ( Satan ).

Anyway you look at it, it raises passionate argumnent, and is a minefield to walk through.

666 = the sum of the letters for

C-A-E-S-A-R
N-E-R-O-N

...in either Hebrew or Aramaic (not sure which, but more likely Hebrew).

Discussions like this are the times where I miss James Mattis on this forum.

Pakcik Bill, Yvsa, Rusty, … and Fellow Forumites.

Alhamdu-li-(A)llaah! Thanks for your kindness in explaining the mystery behind 666 --- Being a Muslim I am not aware of this creepy subject --- I created this new post after I became aware that I have posted 665 postings and I thought 666 might be a good number to be celebrated and to be commemorated! --- It happens that I personally like just any number with repeated digits such as 000 or 111 or 222 or 333 or 444 etc! --- While being a Muslim I am a monothiest so normally I just prefer any odd numbers because of Allaah is 1 and 1 is odd number.

Anyhow, I noticed that Chinese community in Malaysia never like number 4 or any number with repeated digits 4 such as 44 or 444 or 4444 etc --- They are very fond of number 8 or 9 or any number with repeated digits 8 or 9 such as 88 or 888 or 99 or 9999 etc. Sing, Will or Mei Chan might know the reasons behind it.

In order to know more about the mystery off 666, I came across with quite interesting stuff such as what I read in The Unofficial 666 FAQ, The Number of The Beast and Numbers of The Beast!

I hope I didn’t cause any uneasy feeling among you who believe in that 666 prophesy! And I didn’t mean to offend any of you! If anybody being offended by this thread – please email me and of course I will ask Pakcik Bill to delete it --- OK.

Wa-(A)llaahu-aa’lam!

Mohd,
No offense taken on my part at least. One of the best things about this forum is that we have people from all cultures and religions here and we are all very respectful of that. It is great to learn about other cultural and religious beliefs, I thank you for all the insights that you may have even unknowingly given into Islamic beliefs. I am here first to learn and second to share any knowledge I have.

Dave,

You are right. It would have been very interesting to see what JKM would have said on this topic.

I wasn't going to post to this topic because I get tired of the blank looks when I say I think the AntiChrist was Nero. It is amazing how the dispensational view of this topic has become the prevailing view, even in pop culture. Though I don't minimize the importance of eschatology, I think that a lot of time and energy is wasted on something that is quite unclear instead of spent on learning and doing the things on which Bible is very clear.

Nero's name in spelled in Hebrew characters (N-R-W-N Q-S-R) equalled 666 since letters were used as numerals as well (since they didn't have the benefit of the Arabic numeral system).

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Well, I'm not Chinese, but I did find this:

http://www.hongkongnet.net/Directory/Facts/Supersitions_fiveelements/supersitions_fiveelements.html

"One of the most prevalent is the belief in the power of numbers. In Cantonese, which has several tones but a limited number of consonant-vowel combinations, many words share the same pronunciation: the difference is marked by the tone the word carries. This gives rise to numerous homonyms. The number three sounds similar to 'life', nine like 'eternity' and the everpopular number eight like 'prosperity.' Lowest on the list is four, which has the same pronunciation as the word for 'death'."

Oddly enough, my family has always been wary of the number seven, since my father passed away on 7/7/87. So 7/7/97 had me calling my mom every fifteen minutes or so to check up on her. "Oh, nothing, just wanted to make sure you weren't, you know, dead or anything."

I like using the number "999" myself, just because of that one joke about the dyslexic satanists who went out for tattoos..

Revelation is a theological can of worms Uncle Bill. If you ever meet any one who claims to understand it fully they are full of it. I have spent this year so far studying it with a group at my church, using several different references, some of the group has been to seminary too. It is confusing to all of us. I can see the point Pianoman brought up about focusing on the stuff in the Bible that is clear. Revelation is sort of an exercise in faith. It will force one who believes to question what they believe and hopefully seek answers to strenghthen it. That is what I have discovered anyway. My faith is stronger for having examined this esoteric writing. Like I said, I am here to learn first and share what I have learned second.

:
I wasn't going to post to this either, but the numbers finally piqued my interest.

Mohd I think I saw a reference to the Luk (waves) on the Keris having different meanings.
And IIRC the number 9 or 9 Luk represented Heaven or Eternity?

And in Novadak's post

Emphasis mine, nine like 'eternity'

Mohd do you think there may be some connection with the word and letter "9" and the 9 Luk Keris?
It's all very interesting to me.
