7 Days in Kings Canyon - Dialup Beware!!!

Thanks for the trip Lambertiana. I am just completely envious of your trip. Off-trail is the way to go. This year I was unable to do a planned loop route that included some really amazing off-trail that is just the kind of place I love to hike, but my partners weren't prepared for it so we ended up changing the route and staying in heavily travelled areas barely at treeline.

Alpine off-trail is just the way to go. Need to get back there SOON. And from the looks of your posts, I need to get to the Sierras someday as well.

I got the pictures back up, I was amazed at the bandwidth usage for just this one file.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Views of these pictures rapidly maxed out the photobucket bandwidth limit. I have set up another account, please don't view things more than a couple times so that others can have a chance to see them. Thanks.

Linda said your Laconico is very pretty (actual quote).

You can tell Linda that I still have a good amount of that bloodwood for her own Laconico.

Tell Sarah I can take her to Lake Basin instead of Picket Guard Lake, if she is interested. I'd do this trip again. Maybe she should carry her own Laconico on the trip. Stephen has one, it's only fair that she gets one, too.

damn i want to go i want to go i want to go....Besides the other Qs that been asked, what map set did you use and how did you chose the the route??? I might have only three days next month and if my knee gets better im going out there.... is there any way you can post or send the the rout on the map as well???
Now i realy need to get out there... Its not even funny..

Sasha - I used the Tom Harrison Kings Canyon High Country Map, plus the Marion Lake and Mt Pinchot 7.5" quadrangle maps for the sections we did off trail. With those maps and my descriptions in the thread, you should be able to piece together a basic route. E-mail me if you have questions. If you plan on doing it in three days, you are an animal, I felt it was a hard trip for seven days.

Holy Cow Man!!! I definitely have to tag along on a trip with you sometime!

Bummer about your buddies fingers, lucky for the both of you he has medical experience.

Having not gotten any backpacking trips in this year, this thread is KILLING ME!!!

So, according to 65 miles total, I'm assuming about 10ish miles a day?

Thanks for the pics, they are beautiful as ever.

Amazing pics Lambertiana ... I'm pretty sure a calender with all of your outdoors pics would be a hot seller :)

Awesome pics!!
thanks so much for sharing. Glad to hear that you made it out relatively ok! Hopefully he heals up nicely without any major after effects.

Maybe I should get one of those Laconico knives too:D

"...please don't view things more than a couple times so that others can have a chance to see them. Thanks."

No problem 'cos I shall save a few.

Glad you could carry on with the trip despite the injury team buddy picked up. I had to prematurely end-ex one on day six a couple of weeks back after the dog picked up a cut I couldn't field repair. I would have been a bit pissed if it was at the start. Anyway, great stuff.

Its an awesome trip. I would love to be part of a group trip next year. I need to get my orienteering skills up to par. I can only think of one buddy who would want to do the trip. Assuming he isn't deployed next summer, otherwise, its just me.

Hey John im not going to to that trip in 3 days with my knee the way it is.. but maybe part of it. I need to get out for a few days.. Yes i mean it when i say i NEED to get out.
