7 Stitches !!!! Damn !!!!

was it your strong side, or other that as injured? The most annoying injury I've had was slicing my left thumb open on a aluminum air vent in the 12foot ceiling. Was forced off work, b/c my job ment I was in chemicals for 9hrs a night. Only got 1/2 of that back from compensation. I'm ambi, so I kept trying to use my left hand... and bumping my thumb for throbbing pain...
 
I've gotten myself a few times already. Every time I do it I think the same thing "dumbass" usually not paying attention or rushing. Knife making has it's inherent dangers. I would take enough time off to make sure the cut heals and you cant get anything down into the cut or rip it open. It usually takes me a week or two to get back to grinding. Good time off for some design work. ;) Hope it heals up quickly, take care.
 
T. Erdelyi, totally dude ! I so love showing it to the squeemish ! Or even telling the girls I know about it, they get all freaked out...he,he :D
 
Besides several small cuts I did a pretty stupid thing about a year ago......I should mail a piece of steel to a makerfriend.....wanted to ride my bike so I attached the package to the bikes frame with plastic strips....when I wanted to remove them again I used my knife in the right hand while holding the bar with the left...result was a stab on the back of my hand about 1/2" deep...hit the fleshy part between thumb and index and the knife was stopped by bone....good thing was that I was able to get back to work same afternoon after getting a few stitches.

He, he, he....I love grossing people out with it. My girl says when I tell her about it or when I show her it makes her butt hole hurt....LOL ! Just two more das and the stitches are supposed to come out, Hallelujah ! Thanks guys.....RDT
 
Heal quick, man.

There are some bright sides to this:

1. As already said, you know your knives are sharp.

2. You now know to take more care and maybe use some other tool for that job.

3. For Halloween, you can paint in the scars of the stitches and the cut and have your hand dressed up as Frankenstein while you wear the costume of your choice.

Again, please heal quickly.

anyway... i've recently acquired a habit of wearing hand protection when working with my knives
when i was cord wrapping a knife handle (just wanted to try it out) the damn knife slipped
scared the crap out of me
been resorting to wearing spectra gloves :)
 
I HATE DOCTORS !!! I used to work for a Medical School, Asst to the Registrar and I have proof to make me detest the Medical/Health care /system (industry) in this country. Anyway, I go to my scheduled visit yesterday to get my stitches out. It felt too soon to me. 8 days didn't seem like enough time, it was a nasty cut. At the same time, I couldn't wait to get them out, I need and want to make knives immediately ! So, I wait forever to see the doctor. They give me someone from Orthopedics ! which makes no sense. He also wonders why and asks if I broke any bones...No I reply. So he endeavors to remove the stitches. He takes three out and the damn wound just pops right open again ! SH*T ! Like an open mouth. So now I have the 4 remaining stitches in the hand and 3 butterfly strips adhering to the wound to keep it closed. However, I can't get it wet at all in the next week otherwise they'll come off before it's healed properly. The wound was extremely clean and it looked like a side of fresh Ham. The layer just above the muscle closed up but you could still see the fatty tissue and dermal layers. So now I have to be even more careful in the next week. The doc in my opinion was too lazy to re stitch it and just gave me the butterfly's instead. Now I feel totally useless. Anyway, I go to the Accupunturist today, he's awesome ! and the only person who's made me heal faster in the last 3 years of injuries. Whenever I leave his office I feel 10 times better. Last year I cut myself in the same area.:) I took the stiches out myself. Yes, I knew it was healed and yes I used the correct procedures. alcohol over everthing and I used the knife that did the damage to remove the stiches.:D

Wanna really gross out your girl friend ...wait till you can slide the knot from one side to the other and show her!:eek: I about made a co-worker faint doing that!
 
LOL ! good one shappa ! I justgot back from the Acupuncturist and yup, I feel a little better. All he could really do other than seing me up is stick me with some needles in key areas around the wrist and arm to generate greater energy flow and consequently blood flow to the wound so that the healing process is spead up a bit. As of now, I am planning to remove the stitches myself in about another week (wish me luck). that is if it's healed enough. Take care.....RDT

I got tangled up with the band saw a short time ago too that
left a mark. it went through leather welding gloves didn't even
slow it down. I'd get a Philips screw driver and keep it close to you:D
 
:D i can hear this one growing! now he's going to be telling the girls that he was really on a covert anti-terrorist mission and this really happened while taking out three terrorists in a knife fight:D and he has really been awarded the congressional medal of honor! but if i show it to ya honey! i'll have to kill ya:yawn: anyone else hear a fish story?:D
