Toxic, it's head and shoulders above it for abrasion/wear resistance. Since it is Carpenter's version of M390. It's essentially the same as Duratech 20CV. I REALLY like the steel. It is a heck of a cutting/slicing steel. So far, I have not chipped it during use. I don't go pounding my knives through car hoods, or stabbing wood and popping the tip out or anything though. If you use it to cut/slice, you'll like it. In Ankerson's very thorough knife steel test, it came out in Cat 1. Along with S90V, and M390. Hope that helped.
