710 vs. 940 vs. Griptilian

I think if you have a Delicia and are looking for another knife then you should probably move up to something like the 940 or other higher end knife. I just got a 525 mini Presidio which is a great size for EDC if you don't mind a bit of pocket wear from the grippy handle.
Since you already have a good practical EDC in the D4 why not get something a bit nicer.
The Griptilian is great but very much like the D4.

I love the 710 and it is definitly on my must buy list but it is a big knife for EDC.
Get a benchmade with the design and materials you like.I think if you can get a D2 blade go for it. S30V and 154 are both great steel just not as interesting as D2.

If you are at all worried about losing your knife you can still carry the Delicia.

I have handled the 940 and love it, but I would imagine that slim, smooth handle could be an issue with a day of heavy use. Full size grip is next on my list 550 or a Ritter if I can find one. If you like the handle of the mini grip then you may not have an issue with the 940 either. Just get each one in your hand if you haven't already. Good luck with your decision.

Save up and get a Strider. :p All kidding aside, the 940 is a classy little knife with a pretty good blade shape, the 710 is a workhorse, I liked the 710 better, but for sharpening the 940 was is king because of the lack of recurve. I use diamond plates so recurves are hard. I lost my 710 and am still bummed it's a great knife, but I didn't love the recurve.

knifecenter.com did a sprint run in M4. Not sure when they came out or if they're all gone.

knifeworks.com had the limited run, there is possibly room on the list, I ordered mine back when the original specs were with green micarta and 100 pcs. Now they are up to 300 pcs with foliage green G10, one per order.

If your looking into the 94x series, take a look at the 943. Clip point blade, S30V steel, same handle, all the things that your looking for. A little more expensive, but definately worth it.

I cant wait till January for that 710-801 to be finished.

well I feel dumb:o.
I had no idea they had a M4 version.
Sorry.

The 710 is a great knife, you cant go wrong with one of them..

Welcome to the forum Mr.Bojangles.

710HS
551 Grip
Modded 940 blade (I smoothed out the hump on the spine) in a 943's handle
556 Mini Grip

I find the 710 and full sized Grip a little bulky for EDC but carry them at work in my firejacket and in a belt pouch when heading outdoors/camping etc.

The 940 series offer a good-sized blade in a compact knife that is very comfortable to use. It is hard to beat them for day-to-day use.

I am also a massive fan of the Mini Grip range. The Mini RSKs in S30V and M2HS are the knives that I carry more than any other.

My recommendation is for either the 940 or 943 Osborne, or the 558 Mini Ritter Survival Knife Mk1. (All in S30V)

Thank you very much for your post Mr. Andrews, and the pictures in particular. I have been able to find some picture comparisons already, but that's the only one I have of them all in one shot, and it is most helpful. Again, thanks a million.

ditto Steve...NICE... now I kinda want a 710... coulda lived without that pic! funny...My 940 is a 940 blade w/ 943 (black/blue spacer) handle as well! Thing is, in Colorado, I'm likin' an EDC that I can use with gloves on/off. Without gloves, composite handles are a LOT warmer too.

While I could say that I LIKE my 940 better (better looking), my 550HG Grip just IS a better knife (better function) IMO.

I have the 940 and a 551. Both are great knives, but I'd have to say the 940 is my favorite for EDC. I just like the way the 940 looks, how small it feels in my pocket, yet still has a reasonably sized blade. However, as you mentioned it costs about twice what the grip does, so I still carry my grip when I anticipate a situation where I'm more likely to lose / abuse the knife.

I have a Griptilian a mini-grip and a D2 710. I got say the mini-grip is my favorite. It's my EDC and the little guy cuts like a laser. The D2 710 has been really tough to sharpen, I even sent it back to Benchmade and it came back pretty dull.

The mini-grip is the best knife I own, but I'd get a 940 if I were you. The RIFT is next on my list.

In all seriousness, as an owner of a couple of copies of all of these and some of their close relatives, the answer to "which?" is "yes."

Of these 3, my pick would be the 710. It probably has the longest blade to handle ratio of all the folders I own. Its relatively slim, so it doesn't carry like a big 4" blade folder. Flick it open and you have lots of blade to use.

I prefer the mini grip to the full size, The mini has full length liners and doesn't feel "plasticky" like the full size. This I am sure has no bearing on the performance, its just a personal feeling.

Haven't played with a 940, so nothing to add on this one, however I do prefer G10, Micarta or textured FRN as a handle, as against the smooth Aluminium.

Maybe the 615 Mini Rukus is worth a look, its not so mini, its built like a tank and has what I would consider a great EDC blade shape.

Thanks for the continued recommendations guys. The suggestions of the 930 kinda make me wonder...what would you all say is the best EDC axis lock knife with g-10? Would that probably be the 710 in most people's books? This is almost getting harder rather than easier :)

I've allways been a fan of the Griptilians...Gotta love the round opening hole:thumbup: I heard sometime ago that they offer this model in S30V... Does anyone know if this is correct?

Whered steven andrews get his black hadle 940, I sick with jealousy, I suck witha Barney colored 940 and I'm not trying to give it a bad rap (for I love it dearly), but, when I pull that thing out, my friends give me a WTF look.
