710 vs. 940 vs. Griptilian

Thanks for the continued recommendations guys. The suggestions of the 930 kinda make me wonder...what would you all say is the best EDC axis lock knife with g-10? Would that probably be the 710 in most people's books? This is almost getting harder rather than easier :)

I own all three, and I have to say, that for EDC, the 940 is the way to go. The benchmade G10 (in my opinion) is more slick than other G10's, and the recurve on the 710 is the bane of my DMT's. The little diagonal grooves make it look cheap, too.The griptilian's handle is cheap, and frankly when you close it, is doesnt end with a satisfying click like the aforementioned knives . 154cm is just not on par with S30v and D2, I have my 940 and 710 sharpened at pretty shallow angles (~15-20), and the edge does not curl over, but when I did that to 154cm it just didnt work. In a nutshell the BM940 pwns.

Do you prefer the reverse tanto and if so, why? I already have a 940 but am thinking of adding the 943 to my collection.

I haven't found any difference in performance, but I think the clip point blade looks the nicer out of the two.

I'd still prefer a drop point. A Doug Ritter RSK Mk5 model 944 :D - high flat ground drop point in S30V with a thumb ramp

Welcome to the forum Mr.Bojangles.

710HS
551 Grip
Modded 940 blade (I smoothed out the hump on the spine) in a 943's handle
556 Mini Grip

I find the 710 and full sized Grip a little bulky for EDC but carry them at work in my firejacket and in a belt pouch when heading outdoors/camping etc.

The 940 series offer a good-sized blade in a compact knife that is very comfortable to use. It is hard to beat them for day-to-day use.

I am also a massive fan of the Mini Grip range. The Mini RSKs in S30V and M2HS are the knives that I carry more than any other.

My recommendation is for either the 940 or 943 Osborne, or the 558 Mini Ritter Survival Knife Mk1. (All in S30V)

Excellent information in this thread and the pictures helped me tremendously. I EDC a 940 and purchasing a 710 today thanks to you guys!

Best Wishes

:)

They are all great, pretty much everything blue+ line from BM is awesome (I can not comment on red line, have not used them).

Just like to say that as for the EDC size of the normal grip, it really depends on what "feels" right to you. Personally, I love the feel of the normal grip. It isn't heavy (for the size), feels awesome in my hand, great blade (i have ritter, but others are great as well), and doesn't feel big in my pocket.

However, I also carry the mini a lot as well. Really depends on mood, preference, ect.

You will love your new knives

i have both the 550HG Grip and the 555HG mini-grip both in PE the 550 is a monster of a worker and feels nearly indestructible when it locks open. the mini feels just as tough and is likely just as tough as the full-size, also both of these were the sharpest knives ive ever handled out of the box.

Yes Capt, I worked through the grits with wet-and-dry paper, finishing at a 400 grit if I remember correctly.

It's the black handle from a 943. I swapped the blades between my three Osbornes. The 943's blade ended up here:

whoa! is that a Carbon Fiber 943? Is that a custom scale or did they do a sprint run? If it's custom, may I ask who did it?
