#77 Washington Street!!

Straight out of the tubes. Not the best lighting.

One word: Fantastic.

More than one word: Excellent Fit & Finish. Pull on both main blades is about a 7. Pull on both pen blades is about a 6.5. If that doesn't help, pull is about the same as the most recent Northfield 77 Barlows. Just right, IMO. Blades are centered and sharp. Excellent walk & talk with half-stops on both main and pen blades. Brass pins and liners really add to the beauty of these knives. I like blade etches on some knives. The Washington Jack blade etch is pure class and a perfect fit, to my eyes.

Charlie, we really appreciate all that you do here on the forums and in your collaboration with Great Eastern Cutlery. Together, y'all bring us some of the finest pocket knives on the planet... knives that will be used, displayed, admired, chicken-eyed, coon-fingered and talked about for years. Thank you!

I like the deep clotted red color... very impressive!

Just to close out my prior posts about hard pull (so we can move on to admiring this knife): JC & RMA, before I posted about the pull I oiled the joint. As far as the dawn dish soap treatment, I had planned on sending it back to GEC to loosen it up and didn't want to work it over too much because I thought I would have to send it back. The thought of parting with the knife I have been waiting for so long didn't settle well. Some kind individual who prefers a hard pull has offered to trade me!.. just made my day!

-I'm pretty blown away here. What's better than this?! Not sure GEC or Charlie could top this. Thanks for making us a little piece of history. A never ending time capsule of yesteryear.

Thanks for the mini-review and kind words, Al!!
And for the pictures of your nice examples!! I won't get to CF and CE them until mid-next week!!
Sniff!!

The postman just came and went without leaving me anything :(

Anybody have a picture of a smooth ivory bone to tide me over?

I've received my 3 bone Washington Jacks and all I can say is WOW! These knives are absolutely the most beautiful knives I have ever seen. Fine jewelry for old men.
Some crappy pics until the weather improves, middle of a Noreaster with a possible hurricane behind it so good pics have to wait,

Could I offer up the possibility that a substitution of a punch blade for the pen..........might be better.....to each his or her own, and the harness jacks are coming :-).

truth is, i am rather jealous. I don't know how you can be so quick as to score multiples of this knife. I guess you have to see the notification of posting the same minute it hits your inbox and then go straight to dealer and buy without really examining or thinking about it.
I tried this but still got "Sold Out". My email updates every 30 minutes. Hence the notification might have been sent out 29 minutes before i received it. I think this accounts for missing out on these ?
Does this make sense ? i.e. am i understanding 'how it works' correctly ? (i'm opposite of a computer nerd)

KJ- Many of us made reservations with certain dealers right after GEC put them on the production schedule. We're not supposed to discuss the purchasing aspect here, so you can PM me and I'll fill you in if you want.

Took some pics outside this morning, still can't quite show just how beautiful this knife is. Stunning recreation of a rare classic, great job Charlie!

True statement.

Thank you for handling that in the proper manner.

I think I see a plane flying overhead with my knives in it!!!

Mine have been mailed; they are both red; they are not the same; I hope they are here by Wednesday; I am (im)patiently waiting. ;)

Those are a beautiful rendition of a desirable pattern.

Good job Charlie , Bill and all.:)

There is just something about that Washington jack in smooth red(both spear and clip). That knife is just pure class. The other covers are nice, but the red bone has had my attention since the first time I laid eyes on one.
Unfortunately I never snagged one when I had the chance(and funds). But then again, what fun would it be if I got every knife I wanted?

The sun's gettin' a little lower in the afternoon, and it's that time of year for apples. Before this guy is made into a pie I thought it might make for some fancy lookin' pictures.

...and the pull and this one is just fine outta the tube. I was a bit worried because you never know what you are gonna get when you pop the tube. I was hoping for scales that were not too white or not yellow tinted. These are perfect for me. They have little black and pewter colored specks mixed in with a warm white... not as much depth as the Autumn Gold, but the pewter and black colored specks are a nice contrast.

I must say that Cocobolo was not my favorite cover material, but since I didn’t reserve a Washington Jack in time, and thinking I had lost out, I was desperate. Searching through the dealers I spotted a Cocobolo and snagged it. I just wanted one of the WJ beauties. I admit that I wasn’t too excited about the wood, but that changed when I popped the tube and unwrapped this jaw dropper. What I expected to be some blasé boring wood lacking personality was actually personality personified.
Check out the dark variation and pronounced veining in the grain.
I like African Blackwood, but…comeon.
