#77 Washington Street!!

Stand Straight, that was a great score on that cocobolo! I only got an autumn gold on this go around.

Greg, that cocobolo is beautiful! That is one of the main reasons I love the wood. Every piece has it's own character. Some subtle and some(like yours) not so subtle.
Steve, that autumn gold looks great.

Exactly what I am hoping to get in my cocobolo. Looks great!

Look at that knot in the cocobolo! That... is.... amazing! You got a winner there Stand Straight!!

Pretty impressive. Thank you GEC and Charlie.
Another great collaboration.

The blades are pretty stiff to open but, not as stiff as the Harness Jack. I snapped back a nail trying to get a main open on the Harness Jack... The action is good, though.

Steve is your knife the WJ or WHJ ? How stiff are the blades to open ?
kj

KJ-
Mine's a regular Jack with the pen. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the punch blade sits in front of the main on the mark side of the Harness Jack. The pen is behind the main on the Washington Jack.

This one is pretty stiff, but smooth nonetheless. I would rate it about a 7, give or take a little. Pull strength is always hard for me to properly guage for someone else.

Thanks Steve. "7" is o.k. but i wouldn't want anything stiffer. The long pull looks deep enough for good purchase and if gripped at the 'tip end' you get a mechanical advantage.
Slipjoints do not need bear-trap springs. They work fine with easy to open springs.

Check out the dark variation and pronounced veining in the grain.
I like African Blackwood, but…comeon.

Chris at Great Eastern told me that the Cocobola had some dark handles almost like Ebony, and one "spectacular" board in the mix. I hope I get one of THOSE!! That is cool!
It's nice to see a variation once in a while. Has anyone gotten a more usual Coco? The fine grained ones are nice also!

I wasn't sure if I would like this knife or not but decided Charlie could do no wrong and tried my hand at the Cocobolo version and I love it!! It has deep color and some variation to it which is exactly what I was looking for.

The pull is excellent (not stiff at all) on the knife and nice and smooth.

Well done Charlie and GEC.

Some of my other knives are scared, as they should be, and hiding in my drawer. I think someone may be on the chopping block (but not the canvas micarta...he is safe for good).

Here it is in direct sunlight which picks up more red in it.

Awe crap, I just found this page. Way late to the party. After admiring all the pics, I must say that the last few of Coco really got my attention. Simply beautiful. If I wasn't so broke from recent purchases, I'd be turbo surfing to find one. But now going on my short list to watch for in the exchange. :)

Mighty fine example Josh!! That Coca proves it is indeed a relative of Rosewood!! Thanks for the timely pic!!

Thanks for your pic of the Gold also, Draggat! I like this darker version!:)

Good luck, bflying! ;)

A couple of additions and a little better lighting...

Nice collection triple M. Here is what the mail brought me today. I just want to say that each one is perfect.

I really should be the one thanking you for making these possible. I think they are my all time favorite SFO's!

I also love the way the autumn golds came out this time.

Well.. I waited for WEEKS to get a Harness Jack (punch knife), but then my email decided to place the confirmation email from the dealer telling me to pay in the JUNK folder and I missed it! Not happy. A real beauty here. Thanks for the cool pics guys.

Got these two today. They are absolutely gorgeous and very well made. Knife jewelry that is practical for use.

Here's my one caveat; the punch on the Punch Knife is easily a 9 and may be a 9.5 (on a scale of 10). As I've gotten older (and I'm not that old), my nails are more brittle. I find the difficulty of opening the punch to be ridiculous. A 7 or 8 would have been fine. As it is I have to use a blade opener to use this punch.

Really like them both with the one concern above.:thumbup:

Unfortunate about the Punch blade. I find if a knife has a difficult to open blade, i just don't use the knife no matter how fine the rest of it is. People sometimes complain of a slightly off center blade or a spot of light showing between liner and spring, etc., all minor stuff of no significance. But a "9" power to open blade is hugely significant.
Why is GEC unable to correct this ongoing defect that has been present in a high proportion of their knives since start up in 2006 ? No other knife manufacturer has this issue so it is not difficult to rectify.

I take full responsibility for the firm punch spring!
I have supplied these knives to saddlers, horse trainers and others who use them regularly, and I have gotten many requests to strengthen the punch springs for safety! One person even sent me a picture of his finger with a nasty gash!!
Used correctly and carefully (he admitted he was in a hurry!), that will never happen. But, my friends, we always try to design knives for the end user!
I can't help it if they are so beautiful everyone (me included)wants one . . . .or several!!!:D;)
