I can see this as an edge of the seat kinda thread. Also, anything with Rick's awesome sense of humor is worth it in that aspect alone lol.

It's not L-2 .It's higher carbon than L-2.
Nope !! Many of the "equivalent" steels are actually 'the closest' ones .

It is composed of (in weight percentage) 0.45-1.00% Carbon (C), 0.10-0.90% Manganese (Mn), 0.50% Silicon (Si), 0.70-1.20% Chromium (Cr), 0.25% Molybdenum (Mo), 0.10-0.30% Vanadium (V), 0.25% Copper (Cu), 0.03% Phosphorus (P), 0.03% Sulfur (S), and the base metal Iron (Fe)."
Looking forward to how this comes out -- a "less likely to rust" 5160 analog would be ideal to me as a chopper.
In this case Ravne's OL2SP will work well and you should be getting those specs regardless of stated "equivalents " .
Does that clarify things ?
I worked out a final blade design for the 80CRV2 test knife. I apologize if my wording becomes too technical for the layperson to understand.
My first thoughts were toward something choppy and pry'y...

Then my tastes matured into a design that was more slashy and stabby...

I think this is the way to go... more to come..
They all start off with a yokote, Lazlo... when I eventually manage to screw that up, it is an easy transition into something else.... Ha!Rick, nice yokote on the middle oneAre you going to do the other ones as Shobu Zukuri (like the drawing and top blade)?
