830 lock problems

I have to agree with the op. I had this same problem and sent mine back for repair. Again I am pretty sure mine was caused by a small drop to. Outside of landing on the open blade or cracking a nice scale I would not expect a small drop to render any of my knives in operable.

I laughed more reading this thread than I have in a week. Epic! And BH, I'm proud of you. That's the most restraint I've ever seen you show. LOL!

So just to clarify, most of you think it's acceptable for your pocket knives to be rendered in operable by a 3ft drop? I can understand damages but having the knife lock not function out right, you consider this fine? How many times have we all dropped a knife, I have to agree that I think this may be a design weekpoint, especially since its repeatable.

After lots of use (some hard use). I had to adjust mine. I adjusted it and moved on.

How about 10 feet or 20 feet? Grass, carpet or concrete? How about if it didn't land on the lock and was just fine, function wise? What if you dropped your wristwatch, just right and it broke/cracked the crystal? All I'm saying it that I don't believe it's a "design flaw" and when you drop something all bets are off.

Just curious about the unfortunates (you know who you are). Looking for a data point here. When you get out of bed in the morning do you immediately run into the wall or fall down? :)

Some people just can't stand to have faults pointed out about their favorite brands. Almost as bad as car fanatics. That's fine if it didn't happen to you, have a cookie. I've put mine in the back of a drawer and moved on to better quality products. I'm done with the thread.

So, why didn't you send it in for warranty repair??
I wouldn't hesitate to do so.
Especially since it.isn't a particularly inexpensive knife.

i've dropped mine as well. It did happen to me. Why assume that it didn't?

All knives are fallible, as are all people. Rise above it. Clumsy me was what I recall saying under my breath as i watched it bounce off the asphalt and, to my dismay, land in a filthy puddle. Damn pocket clip knives can catch on seat belts during passenger exit! Should have employed a retaining lanyard...

Please don't leave. This story has legs. My feeble story can't hold a candle to yours. I need something to do while waiting for the new models to be delivered so I can find out how they hold up during impromptu impact testing. This is, after all, a manufacturer's forum designed to garner end user feedback. Well done. Mission accomplished.

Mine has hit the ground too.... no discernable damage whatsoever though. :)

Once, I oiled it, wrapped it in a paper towel to soak up the excess....
One of our Springer Spaniels decided it looked like a toy, and proceeded to carry it around doing who knows what with it until my gal saw what was happening.
She retrieved it from him and presented me with a slobbery Marksman 830....hahaha

"What? I like buck knives too! They work great for slicing open the dog food bag to feed myself."

You sad story is a tiny bit better than my pathetic tale of woe. However, neither of our stories rise to the level of a 5th grader short story assignment. Back, back to the drawing board.

For Oregon :)

Dog's Ode To A Buck Knife

My dog really wants his own Buck knife
He says it would improve his love life
He could cut open bags of food
And look really really really good
And certainly impress his dog wife.

He then spotted my Marksman 830
He barked "please, I'd never let it get dirty"
"The lock is so very very strong"
"There could never be anything wrong"
"And boy oh boy is that 830 so purty"

So I gave him my prized knife
He is so happy with his life
He has the object of his dreams
Dogs like knives too, so it seems
And he even impressed his dog wife

:D

Oh.... and never forget the power of the Marksman to cut through the fabrict of time, space and the color spectrum....lol

Now that is sixth grade material. No way that belongs in this thread of woe. Dang it you are good. Give your dog buddy one of these for his own:

Heck, of course it masters time and space and puts a grin on your face. It's a BUCK.

Oregon, I try, just not very hard......hahaha!!
Those dog knives are great....lol

Dangit, I forgot what i was going to say.......
Something about how sweet the 830 is......
:)

I wish unwisefool would come back and.post photos of.his 830.......

I've been holding back one complaint. Just the one. But it is a shocker:

I dropped my orange knives and the color fell off down a storm drain. A manufacturing issue wouldn't you think???

Before the minor impact:

After the minor fall:

Fellows,

I think this thread is about done, going to comment on its full length, not wanting to start debate just hope you will consider my point of view.

I doubt the OP will return. My comment, even good natured humor can become something that is not right if used in too much of a poking manner.

We need to change peoples opinions with conversation, facts and indirect humor. Or, eventually, we 10 people will only be talking to each other.

Someone sent a private message to me about my comments above and their message was received, read and thought about. Perhaps it was a post I should have not written. I wrote it as much a forum member as a moderator. But with the Albatross of Moderator hanging around my neck , I should be careful what I comment on, no matter the conversation. In this case I was disappointed the OP went from discussing a knife experience to all but saying it showed a flaw in the entire company makeup. You guys replies were within parameters of decent forum type conversations. No one lost it and typed 'fightin' words' and you tried to point out that one's single knife experience does not damn a model or a company. So, I thought about the conversation I had, came back and re-read the entire thread a couple of times.

I will say I am sorry if anyone has been offended, on either end. But, am going to leave the original statements so you know what this is about. I do believe the Buck Forum should be a group of folks that are welcoming people who are reasonable and not looking to cause trouble for entertainment. I call you Buck people to quickly discern the bad purposes and not fight with words but to fight with silence to those who would cause us trouble. I will be careful in comments in future because of the moderator harness I wear. I thank the person that commented for taking the time for discussion. We will have to work in out together..
