Has anyone tried the custom serration 888knivesrus.com offers? If so, what's the pattern like (pictures would be most welcome)?

As much as I like my serrated Spyderco Atlantic Salt, I find myself wishing it had the tip portion plain edge like they offer on the blue handled Rescue 93mm. I've been contemplating seeing if I could get a plain edge Atlantic Salt and have it serrated the way I wanted it.

I suppose if nobody's tried their service I could bite the bullet and have them do it to a $10 cheapie and try it myself. The serration job is only $2.

Opinions?

We do the serrations with a slightly modified version of a Microtech pattern serration.

Here is a Ontario Marine Raider bowie where you can view a large pic of our serration pattern. 888 Custom Serrations

Ming, I'm not sure what you based you opinion on but we have serrated thousands of knives, some of whose owners post here.

Judging from that picture, it looks decent enough, especially for only 2 dollars. I would consider this option.

Pay no attention to Ming, that was just another incarnation of the troll Vinny. For him to say he wouldn't trust somebody is like Charles Ponzi telling you not to trust your money to a good financial advisor.

One of the things that I like best on my One Hander is the serrations on the front of the blade. It get used a lot at restaurants and those serrations cut through anything like butter.

Thanks 888. I looked around before but couldn't find a good picture.

Would you be able to do a knife like the way I mentioned above? Fully serrated except about an inch left plain at the tip? That'd be great.

s0rce, we can get them, just phone in your order as they aren't on our site.

Planterz, we can extend the pattern as far as you want but you will also need to phone in this special request. Probably will just run you a few bucks more.

Oh, one more question: Could the serrations be done the other side of the knife? The industry standard is to have them on the front side, but to me this always seemed backwards and I'd like to try it with serrations on the back side of the knife.

Does anyone have a picture of a knife that has these custom serrations on them? I don't know what the 'old' microtech serrations look like, and that picture is no longer up.

What angle are they ground at?

Thanks,
Jimmy

Holy hell, here's a blast from the past.

Never did make the plunge...
