888Knivesrus has decided to profit from the sale of a knife that is unquestionably in violation of the patent secured by Emerson Knives Incorporated for the WAVE feature.

888knivesrus not only sells the Commander ripoff, they do so while selling actual Emerson Commanders.

They know this is wrong yet they have chosen to act in an unethical manner. This speaks volumes about these folks.

I would rather use my own teeth to cut something open before I would buy a knife from these people!

wave patent violation

Having bought several REAL Emerson production knives from Danny (888knivesrus), I'm extremely disappointed he would carry such a blatant POS ripoff! I wonder who else is hawking these cheap ripoff knives?

I got a real kick out of this part...

"The thing on the back catches the pocket of your pants on the way out of it's clipped position. This engages the blade to deploy and deploy quickly!"

At least he didn't try to name it... ;)

I don't think 888 is doing it, but there are a lot of places popping up selling Lightfoot LCC DA clones now as well as other MT OTF clones. Had a guy at the gunshow in San Antonio try to sell me one for $30 this weekend. It seems that design infringement is the new name of the game for the Chinese and other knife companies.

I'm curious if everyone will stop buying from Knifeart because they advertised the DeVilliars "version" of the wave...

Okay, I'm behind my flameproof wall, fire away... :)

cp, he took it down as soon as he was made aware, anyone can make a mistake. It's what they do after they know.

FWIW, I was in China last month & the English language TV station was doing a special news report on their recent entry into the WTO. One of the items covered as part of the report was a crackdown on copyright, trademark & patent violations. It remains to be seen whether or not they are just paying lip-service to it. Nevertheless, IMO, it would certainly be worth the effort by American knife companies to pursue every possible legal remedy.

Unfortunately, cheap knock-offs will always find a place for people who don't know any better. Many retailers are just in the business of making money, so they'll sell anything that looks like a knife, no matter if it's a knock-off. Look at Bud K.

At one of the calif shows in Sept I saw a knife that looked EXACTLY like a strider..........INCLUDING the STAMPED NAME....that someone had bought at a swap meet for under $30........MADE IN CHINA

Considering the fact that they have been doing this for EVER!
And that many factories use slave and convict labor!
And they are selling organs on the world market from where you dont what to know!
And that ANY religion gets you thrown in prison where you have to make pirated products until you get too old and then they harvest your organs...........

I REALLY THINK WE SHOULD BAN ALL PRODUCTS MADE IN CHINA!!!!!!!!

Of course.....that is only my opnion! :(

Some great facts about the market freedom in this wonderful country of ours is that one person (or company) does not have the right to control, manipulate or own any particular market or product. Even having a patent only entitles a person or company the rights for a limited time. This was put in place to allow "free" access to all and stop the huge monopoly. If others can produce good quality items at a reasonable price this creates competition and the ultimate winners are the public. It also allows the american dream for a person to work for himself. I for one have benefited from buying generic brands. True many are not the quality but some are almost if not exactly like the "name brand". Also just a note on patents. You only have to change (don't quote me on this)I believe 20 or 25% of the design to market the product.:p

IMO, generic brand household products, drugs, etc are quite a different issue from blatant theft of intellectual property. Minor design mods may make it legal to do something, but that does not make it right. Unethical practices are still unethical no matter how many spins are put on them.

One of the benefits of free enterprise is that every retailer has the right to sell the items they wish. It's up to the consumer to buy the product or not. If the retailer offers quality production peices as well as clones, that's the retailer's choice, but I for one will not buy a knock-off of someone else's knife design.

"There is nothing in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and he who considers price only is that man's lawful prey." -- John Ruskin

I get this knife, like it, know that it is a copy, (like the HOLO copy, LCC Copy, Stryker Copy etc).
I take one photo of copy and put on our site. Get call from Mr Emerson, take off our site that knife and now don't have any and will not sell any.
There is a market for the sell of cheap knives. Copies or not.
I did not mean any disrespect to Mr Emerson. It bothers me more that I hurt (disrespect) him and hurt our Image more that any Patent law.
This is a family business and we try do every thing so we can sleep at night and pay bills and I can buy my Grand Kids toys.
If any one has a problem with a bad decision on my part and they don't want to buy from me because of this one mistake let him cast the first stone.
