Over the past few months, waiting for my 2013 Forum knife, I've been wandering around the GEC website.

I noticed the #09 Esquire in progress. That looks like one sweet penknife! Does anyone know when that one is expected to come out? Any info on covers? Price? Where to get one?

I'm afraid I could turn into one of you GEC addicts if I'm not careful:D

I can not answer your questions, but I can show it's progress so far :)

I'm keen on this, especially if they finish it with tip bolsters.

But it appears not much has progressed with it, GEC seem really absorbed with SFO work lately.

The info on these was sent to Distributors today. They will probably be available some time in January. Here are the handle materials as sent to us:

#09 Esquire – Overall length 2 7/8” long closed, spear/sheepfoot blades, no shield
Tidioute – smooth bolster
Jigged Bone – color to be determined
Jigged Bone – another color to be determined
Acrylic – color to be determined
Black Buffalo Horn

Northfield – lined bolster
Cocobolo Wood
Snakewood
Smooth Calico Bone
Stag
Pearl – possible

Just keep in mind the caveat with GEC, "subject to change WITHOUT notice"

Thanks. I'll start saving my pennies now.

Well, looks like normal ones, but should still look good:

That does look like an interesting knife. I support Will's suggestion for little tip bolsters or even a shadow pattern. Maybe another time.

Give the planned N'field run with premium materials, I assume this one is not all steel? So why no shield?

Tip bolsters would really fit this knife. Not to derail the thread here, but I don't recall seeing tip bolsters on a recently produced knife. Are they much more difficult to manufacture, or is it just a matter of them falling out of fashion?

Good point on the tip bolsters. I don't know if they're harder to manufacture or not, I do know that many old Remingtons have them and look fantastic. It would be a chance for GEC to enhance their Old School credentials, especially now they've done Rat-tails on the current Forum Knife.

Shadow, as S-K points out would be really impressive, particularly with woods.

Check out the acrylics:

That black looking one is marked "[Something] pinstripe". That's gonna look pretty classy, I think...
