#9 Esquire

OK a learning opportunity here... What's a "tip bolster"? :)

It's a bolster that only covers the very tip of the scale. Specifically, the hinge pins are not covered. Google images has a few good examples if you use quotes: "tip bolster"

Gosh, you guys are fast.

Tip bolsters I believe were fairly traditional on gent's knives. Lends a more elegant look. Not as strong I guess as a regular bolster, thus the use on gent's knives. I really like that Esquire, but wish it were about 3.5.

Looks like standard sized bolsters, from the #9 photos:

I like the pattern shape, but as with all GEC knives I don't get my hopes up without reading some pull-strength comments.

Hope they do some without the sheepsfoot, a small pen blade instead. A shadow pattern option would be excellent as well.

This is on top of my want list for traditionals. Seems like perfect fit for suit pants. Love the secondary sheepsfoot

Has anyone seen these pics on GEC's site? I'm pretty excited for this one. Hope it doesn't sell out in 10 seconds like the mammoth 44s did.
Does anyone know if this is acrylic or real shell?

Looks like they added snakewood to the line up, I know I'm getting one! Seems like I'm the only one ardently following this pattern still.

I am too, but I also keep waffling.
I'm really curious what the 'something' pinstripe will look like. I get a real 1920's vibe from that.

I'm liking that acrylic (?) in their picture #11. Looks just like some vintage celluloid.

Most is LG (looking glass : real shell veneer sandwiched in acrylic); although they do list "LVS", which is what most call real shell. It is still a laminate veneer sheet of many layers of abalone; but this is what most makers today call genuine abalone. Case called it LVS at one time, but now seems to call it Genuine Abalone.

As most "clean-up" short runs, I wouldn't expect them to hang around long.

Do any of you kind gents know which of these is the Looking Glass and which is the LVS?

Thanks

That is the LVS abalone in the box on the right. Beautiful stuff!

I have been patiently waiting for these to be released especially interested in the cocobolo version. My sons birthday is the 28th of Feb & so far GEC has released a knife on his birthday & I have bought both patterns. First year was the primitive bone & blood red jigged bone calf roper which I bought both of & last year was the ebony little jack. Keeping my fingers crossed that this year it will be the Esquire! :)

LVS in the box, rest of pics are LG. You can't really tell unless you have a good side view; but on those notice the dull look of the veneered abalone throughout.
