901 Confederate D-Guard Bowie

I was watching this one, no money in reserve so just a spectator on this one. I also would like to add one of these to my pile some day :). I hope the seller got a pile of money, more than the auction would have brought in the end (we will never know).

A seller ending their auction early with bids is nothing new at all. It used to happen all the time to me. Just like Roger on this one, a certain ebay seller who is still active would start an auction and if the bid was not high enough he would kill it (some times with only seconds left) and then relist the same item the next day. I contacted ebay and all they ever were was silent, they were making money off the seller and that is all that matters to them. Roger, sorry that happened with this auction to you and all the other bidders or hopeful bidders (James, Mike). Some day you will find what you are looking for at a price you want. Happy hunting folks.

I would be upset also if I was bidding or even watching something on auction and the seller abruptly ended by the seller... I wouldn't buy anything from that seller from then on....

The problem for me as a buyer is that your strategy will never see my bid as I try to only bid once with the most I am willing pay in the last 10 seconds of the auction.
Any bid I place earlier is silly because of the people that will enter 10, 20, even 30 bids until they get a dollar over you. Use a BIN or set a reserve if you are worried the auction will not perform. The serious smart money only bids at the end. The only reason I placed a bid early on the D-Guard was to help generate some bid traffic and ward off what ended up happening anyways.... the auction ending early. My actual bid had the auction continued to completion would have been many orders of magnitude greater.
I would not call it my strategy as mich as it just has happened a few times. I have had knives bring hundreds more than i thought they would in the last minute, but a few and it seemed to start being the norm would have a minimal bump at the end and i was giving away gems for half of what i paid. If an auction ended i always shipped the item no matter how much i lost. I told myself it was the principal and to just think of the times I've been fortunate enough to win auctions at half of what id pay, those days also seem to be a thing of the past. I haven't done an auction in a couple years now, just buy it now, seems like the only way to get what i need for em,
Although i miss the days of getting an extra hundo unexpectly on sunday
