DAMN!!! He's been eating good! It's only fair that he gets eaten by a bunch of people that would appreciate it! Us three for 7 days man! :D

To repeat what I said last time this was going around the internet and Bladeforums, in 2006 ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=429953&highlight=snake ):

I call BS on this being an honest representation of a 95 pound, 9'1" rattler.

Firstly, notice that he is holding the snake several feet in front of him, in a photo taken with an extreme wide angle lens... making the snake look disproportionately large in comparison to the person.

Secondly, even if that snake was a large as this picture makes it seem, it still doesn't look to me like a 95 pounder... maybe a 50 pound snake, but I doubt even that.

Thirdly, if that snake was 95 pounds, and he was holding it up on the end of a 3 foot long pole, it would be quite cantilevered, and would seem like several times that weight. Judging by the looks of him... not particularly well built, and not struggling to hold it up... I doubt that snake was anywhere close to 95 pounds.

Lastly, we don't know the size of that man, but he might be a little feller, under five feet, chosen to make the snake look dramatically large by comparison, for all we know.

that dude's looking pretty comfotable supporting a heavy weight with his hand so close togeter on that tong... makes me think.... hmmmm

I don't know if that one weighs 91 lbs. or not. I do know they can get pretty darn big. I've killed several that were very large. My dad once killed one that was as big around as a beer can for 5 feet. Never thought to weight it though.

Three things:

1. It's a lot of food should you be in a position to kill a Rattler that large.

2. If you see a snake like that, don't screw around with it unless you are starving.

3. The load of venom that a snake that large could deliver, camera angles and the rest of it notwithstanding, would be quite the battle to live through.

Big snake! :D

I saw this a uear or two ago, and not sure but i think we snopes ed it and it a snake from Texas, Pat

that snake is nowhere near that weight.

this is just another case of when people try to spice up pictures by adding nonsense and lies to them then forwarding it in an email.

Snopes and all the Internet "expert" sites and their opinons amd "rulings" aside, thats a dang big snake.

I suggest we start with breaded snake meat, with a nice dusting of paprika, raw garlic and smoked chipotles, seared in the cast iron pan. Then maybe some salted, spiced and sundried snake jerky.

:)

By the logic of that thing being huge, the guy must be at least 200' tall. The buildings behind him are probably 15-20' at their peaks, and he is ten times the size of them!

The snake is closer to the camera than he is, guys.

There is no way that snake is even close to 97lb. The Eastern Diamondback is the largest species of rattlesnake, the largest of which recorded was 96 inches. That would be one lb. per inch. I'm no rattlesnake expert but given the white bands on the tail I don't think that's an Eastern. It's likely a Western Diamondback which grow to an average of 4ft with 6ft being very rare.

3. The load of venom that a snake that large could deliver, camera angles and the rest of it notwithstanding, would be quite the battle to live through.

If I had to get bit, I'd rather it be by a big one like that than by a small one, particularly a baby. The larger/older snakes are more likely to give you a dry bite or little venom where the smaller/younger ones are more likely to inject you with everything they have.

I don't know about weight but that snake (including the location of the wound ) looks just like this one.

This is the largest western diamondback on record and was killed in Arizona recently. This link is to a (linked) newspaper article and this story was carried on national news so I'm pretty sure it's real.

I still seriously doubt it was as heavy as 96 lbs even though this one was reported to be 8 ft 10 inches.

Is there some kind of secret club where you get the 'hanging da big dead rattl'er with a red-tipped pole'? Perhaps down south there is a specialty shop that sells poles with red rubber tips specific for this purpose...:)

Cool pic, but I don't think that snake is anywhere near 95lbs and probably not over 5 or 6 feet!

If it was, I am pretty sure the guy who found it would have sold it to a museam by now....
