a 1000 bucks in the middle of nowhere....

Reconseed, my apologies. I know you were asking a legitmate question, and the conversation got out of hand.

To answer the question, if the SHTF, I would probably hunker down right where I live. My home is my best survival tool. I would probably spend that money on more food resources.

Thanks, Don

Kevin, $100 a box ?!?! That's got to be Canadian, not US. You gotta come shopping in Plattsburgh more often.

Hey is the Tiajuana Jailhouse still open ? I never got to eat there .

Oops thread veer . Thousand dollars ? middle of nowhwere ? It would go to the same use as the business cards I had were used for when I was stuck in the middle of nowhere .

Codger does it do any good once it leaves the barrel ? I used to use it but the buzzing from the wasps through off my aim . L:O:L

I have heard silk gives you better range as well .

Okay, I can see you guys have no consideration for serious discourse. First of all, you want to use a good animal lard, like bear grease, for patching balls. Secondly, for an overshot wad, you can use something as simple as tree leaves...who's got time to go around looking for wasp nests?

Chris you may be thinking of fine silk . Aside from that . I am always right .
Aside from that I heard about it in a movie so I must be right . L:O:L

I promised not to drunk when I am post so I,m stopping now . You guys have a great time .

P:S: Chris I still haven,t forgiven you about the squirrel dumplings . If you post the recipe it would be a good start .

Kevin , the Tijauna Jail is sadly closed. It is now Geoffrey's Pub, a yuppie bar that serves bangers and mash for $11 US.

Codger,

Nobody wants to see you do a lapdance and $1000 won't buy enough lessons considering what you have to work with. Mac

Cover the basics:

tools
--------
Scrap yard Scrapper 6 $90
GB / Wetterlings $50
22lr pistol/revolver $350
6" 357 revolver $350
16 off brand lighters $20
fire steel $20

ammo
----------
1,000rds 22lr $30
150rds 357 mag $40

Shelter
-------
latex poncho $15
emergency blanket $10

Water
-------
2 canteens + cup $35

That should total up to about $1,000 give or take a couple of dollars. If you could spare another $100, use it to buy a military grade camelbak and put all that stuff in it. It owuld give you another 3L of water to boot.

i didnt add anyhting for "food" because im assuming that you have a package or two of beef jerky, and a couple of granola bars you could dump into your bag before you head for the hills. If you dont, then packets of honey from KFC would help out a lot.

Kevin, there's still a lot old abandoned pasture land here in northern New York that's going cheap. Probably better now that the housing market seems to be taking a dump. People around here have been buying it up and building MacMansions with 20 acres of lawn to mow, like they are lords of an estate. Particularly summer people building a second or third home who have more money to spend than they know what to do with. I'm sorry to see that, destroys the rural atmosphere and jacks up my taxes.

Coldwood , I spoke to a guy who said the Ancient Irish were less proficient at agriculture due to their leaving much of their land as brambles and other tangleweeds .

I didn,t tell him but thats exactly what I want .
I must come from Ancient Irish stock . L:O:L

Actually I would like a little arable land . If it was mostly tangled up useless for real estate land it is exactly what I want. As long as deer would call it home so would I .

Well I guess that's why the Ancient Irish are ancient.

What does an Irishman call a seven course dinner? A baked potato and a six-pack of Guiness.

Coldwood I am not yet man enough to appreciate the fine qualities of Guiness .

Bangers and mash is another matter . At eleven bucks a plate it better be deeelicious ?

Plattsburgh was always a special place for me . From the beach to Gus,s red hots it had a small town feel to it . Heck it even had a drive-in five minutes from downtown . Don,t tell me what happened to it I already know . There used to be an abandoned jeep there which was more fun for us kids than the movie .
It was the place where I saw my first wild animal . A flipping field mouse . It still got me going .

Funny thing is right across the road was a field and mall . In that field I stepped on the second wild creature I saw while flying a kite . It was a huge rabbit . I,m telling you this thing looked like it weighed twenty pounds . I don,t know who was more scared Me or the rabbit .

boar, i was KIDDING!!!!!! LOL

it's customary to put a smiley behind said jokes.:D
With a 1000 bucks of silver dollars in my possesion in the middle of nowhere I'd be wonderin about my sanity to start with, but I would have an endless supply of arrow heads and fishing lures in the rough.

One thing that's interesting about money...as long as there are people on earth...those people will be willing to "do things" for some of that money. It's a relative commodity. It isn't actually worth anything now...if you really think about it...it's just green paper. It's more about the power to get things you want.

So, my vote is that if I am are out in the woods with cash and no foreseeable way to spend it...(and there are other people on earth still) I'd use it to "motivate" others to do things for me that I didn't want to do myself...like build a shelter, gather food, obtain resources, etc.

I would, of course, have to lie to them to make them think that they will eventually be able to spend it...and I'd have to play off their greed...:D

And if I couldn't do that...then I'd stash it somewhere to be able to come back to it later.
