A becker for bushcraft: what would you recommend?

I use my Bk11 a lot in the woods, but something along the size of a 16 is pretty awesome as well.

Here are some sweet custom 16's with K9's work as well as aswelke's awesome sheaths.

I haven't got a lot of experience with the BK16 yet, I've only had mine for 3 weeks, other than initial sharpening, I've spent less than 3 hours with it in my hand, mostly processing kindling for my wood stove, and a little test carving (notches, bow drill set, etc.) and some limbing of some downed branches in the yard. I've also got large hands, I can't get my hand into a size large nitrile glove, its got to be an XL, and can comfortably span 12 keys on my keyboard.

That said, when I first got the BK16, I was disappointed at how small the handle felt when I was just casually handling the knife, especially how cramped it felt with a full grip, my little finger has to stack over my ring finger. Then I started splitting a chunk of firewood up to make a bow drill set, I stopped thinking about the handle being too small, about midway through, I realized the grip was comfortable and gave good control across a range of holds. I've since added liners to make it a little thicker, but in all honesty, even though it's "too small", I find it very comfortable in actual use.

For those of us with larger hands, see if you can get your hands on a tweener, and actually put it to use, judge it when you're actually pushing or pulling it through something rather than just resting in your hands, it may surprise you.

A murse is a MANLY purse, tool box, field bag, etc....... Working on a really cool design that will edc your tablet, pistole, and other basics.....First aid, bankline, Vaseline......Watch this space........Started with a Canadian Army surplus WWI medic bag that I used to use caving.......This one will be good on the airplane (the proto has been to Vegas and Argentina and doubled as my field bag in Gaucho Land......A mini dispatch case with additions to make it as versatile as a BK 2..... Well, almost.......

And it is awesome! I peeked at the last gathering, anxious for them to be available. I've been using my 16 for more and more lately. I honestly bought it from Moose at the Spring gathering to cut steak with. I've been carrying it at least 2-3 times a week since. It's an all rounder. Any Becker will do well in the bush though.

It think the 16 is a good all around knife for bushcraft but personally I think it comes down to what you want to do and skill level. I have build shelters, fires, and crafts in the winter time with my Bk11 just to see what I could do with a small knife, ive also done the same with my 77...

I kind of feel like everything in the Becker line (except maybe the BK3) is a good knife to use in the woods.

Unless you've used the 3, I wouldn't count it out as a woods knife. It might not be as woodsy as like a 7/9, but it is STILL a quite capable knife.
