A Ben Seward Bodyguard For Blade WIP

Good thread here. I'm following along.

Uh.........Ben..........if you have extra blackwood just laying around to hack into pieces, I'll take some off your hands buddy. ;)

Lol, John! I split 2x2 blocks for my handles. What's left over from a bowie size handle isn't really thick enough for my purposes...now if I made folders...

I believe the salvation and attraction of the forged blade like it was meant to be and will be again is in the performance field

Long live the forged performance blade :)

YES!

Heat treatment. Edge geometry. Balance. Handle ergonomics. These are the things that matter. Joe knows it. Ben knows it. This knife is going to rock!

You know it buddy .... Hear your coming stateside

Can you make it to Blade ?

Really wish I could make it this year bud. Miss all you guys... Way too much on my plate right now though. Come to think of it, last time I was at Blade was when I first met Ben, as we both tested for JS alongside a truly great group of Bladesmiths. Sam, Jean-Louis, Veronique, Mr. Meers, Lon, Greg, Russell, and a few others all got their stamps that year too. Proud to be a part of that class.

I do plan on being there in 2017. Looking forward to seeing you, Ben, and everyone else then.

This is where we play guess the guard material

Bens kinda fuzzy pic helps by withholding to much detail :)

Black Micarta would SUCK for a guard material on one of Ben's knives! Wrought iron would be cool though!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

It's G10 guys

Ben and I wanted to do a true synthetic guarded and handled version

I wanted a true black guard and we all know that almost any blackened metal is susceptible to the black wearing off when carried hard

Here is the final piece

It's heading to Paul on Monday and yes it will match my carry revolvers perfectly

Paul I'm thinking high ride black sharkskin cross draw :)

Love it
Ben is über talented! I had the pleasure of handling many of his blades in Arkansas and they feel just as good as they look. Lucky guy Joe, enjoy :)

ps. a youtube video would be pretty cool too! :D

Thx Mark

There will definitely be a video once leather is done and I'll be carrying this one at Blade for all to see

I love it :)

Awesome. I love it. G-10 guard huh.....welcome to the dark side. :) I've said many times in the past I love black g-10 for the reasons you just mentioned Joe. Plus it's VERY strong.

I agree :)

It was Bens Idea

I wanted a guard that the black would not rub off and would also not rust

I also believe that the weight savings while negligible will still be there

The guard will look different in person

Ben says it's darker and I believe it will also look thinner than the pic represents

On a knife this size power is a hard thing to derive but weight savings and a sharp blade can rule the day

Like the custom Scandium Titanium revolver in the pic it will carry like a feather and pack a hard punch :)

After my Pappy does his thing I do believe this one will get its fair share of carry

Came out great. I've also come around to appreciate G10 as a guard material and this black & tan configuration looks terrific.
