A Benchmade 730 "Elishewitz"...

Glockmann did not steer me wrong! What a cool, well-made jewel of a knife! Very well thought-out. Good ergos and the Axis lock is great!
Extremely smooth operation, I don't think I have another knife in my collection that feels smoother. Beautiful blade grinds and handle contours- a true work of art! I love it. This will replace my Persian and my Mini-Stryker as my "dress" knife. Got a good deal on e-bay for this one...I highly recomend it.

Well, I made a trade for a (NIB) Benchmade 805 TSEK yesterday, so I have a feeling that my BM 710 and this new BM 805 are going to have to fight it out for pocket-space (to go along with my little BM 705) as soon as it arrives.:D.

BTW...What does "TSEK" stand for???

Dann, you look like you have been bitten by the Benchmade bug! :)

TSEK = Tactical Safety Equipment Knife.

Yeah, finding out Benchmade makes limited editions of your favorite design is always bad for the wallet. The 710 is my favorite, but the 520 is definitely The Tank of the family. And it's always nice to have a 960, 921, or 94x for "gentlemen" situations.

Hi Folks,

I got a plain edge, satin BM 735 this week too! I just love this knife. It is very solid, very smooth and beautiful to look at. It becomes part of my hand when I hold it...Wow.

Jeff/1911.

You guys are making me miss my 710 more and more. It was stolen last April and I edcided to try other blades to fill the void. Microtech, Kershaw, Camillus, CRKT, etc.

Here I am 9 months later and now I'm again actively shopping for a 710.

Soon, hopefully very soon.

GMan99 the Ares will become your favorite EDC, I swore by my AFCK till I got the Ares, now I carry both on and off and sometimes together.

I like my 730 Elishewitz (Ares) ALOT, but the BM 805 IS my favorite EDC...No contest.:).

A few months ago, I was able to pick up a limited edition Ares 733-01. Carbon fiber bolsters, rosewood scales, polished S30V blade. Does that sound good? I'll post pics when I can. I recently did a major upgrade of my computer equipment and I'm taking it one step at a time.

The Benchmade Axis lock knives are great. Look out Glockman they make a lot of models so the habbit can get expensive :D

I have an 806 AFCK, and its a very good knife. This may not make a lot of scense but work with me. The AFCK is not my favorite knife, BUT it does everything well and I can't find anything that I'd change. It just a very good knife. Glockman you owe it to yourself to pick one up. I know you like Spyderco knives and this has the oval hole in the blade (Spyderco round is a little better, not much though) plus and Axis Lock great combination.

I also have the 730 Ares and I really like the knife. I got it in a trade from a "lefty" and I left it that way to wear it opposite strong side while at work. The knife opens very smooth, much smoother than the AFCK, just a slight flick and its in play. It is razor sharp and it carries great. It's too bad that more people don't consider the knife. I feel it is over looked for the more popular Benchmade models.

I agree... the ares is one of the most overlooked benchmade knives they sell... i think the whole 'multi-color' g10 killed it.. but it seems that they are fixing the problem and just having black...

---

I've had my eye on the Ares for quite sometime now... I've been looking at differnet models and seeing which ones are better etc...

almost half a year ago I had a local dealer ship in a Ares CF M2... I first just asked if he could get it and the next thing I know he had it in his store willing to sell it to me...

I had just bought a BM710M2HS and I wasn't willing to throw down on another knife that soon...

I have sort of regreted not buying it when it was in but what do you do? Well I'll tell you what to do... Start looking again....

I wan't a 3.5ish dress-ish / EDC knife... As pretty as the m2 ares was... it had a telfon coating... and I thought for a dress knife it needed to be a mirror finish...

so... i looked for the best steel (in my mind) that didn't need to be coated... woah-lah... s30v... so now my search was on for this steel ... i looked at the switchback models... no thanks... i looked at the 690... nah, I want axis...

So then comes the 733-01 ares... a s30v steel with rose wood/CF ... beautiful... beautiful... i am quite proud of this knife and am now glad that I didn't choose the cf m2 blade... i have 492/500 and couldn't be happier...

i'd encourage anyone to check out the ares... even in the 154cm... its a wonder of a knife!

this isn't my knife but it gives you a visual! ;)

Did you try an 806 AFCK yet? If so, what do you like about the 805 that makes you prefer it instead?

Benchmade does make some great knives. They have a great selection also. Customer service from the Benchmade folks (Angie) has been nothing short of excellent.

No, I haven't held an 806 yet, but I like the 805 better because I prefer dual thumb-studs over the "hole" that the 806 has. Also, I don't care for a "black blade", and I don't think that the 806 comes in satin, where the 805 does come with a nice satin-finish on the blade.

Is the edge of the 805 as thin as on the 730? My replacement stonewashed 730 blade is very thin at the edge and cuts easier than any other folder I have, even my new Delica. If the 805 cuts as easy, I may be looking into another knife.

I no-longer have a 730 to compare my 805(s) to, but the edge of the 805 is pretty thin and sharp. Also be aware that the two knives are made with different steels (ATS-34/154CM for the 730, and 440C for the 805).
