A BK15 and diamond files....looks like I'm doing a complete makeover :)

Got most of the shaping done on the scales....trying to decide if I can pull off hidden pins. Might be more precision required than I can handle (bad pun)...

Done. Steep convex, katalox scales with maple "liners" and fileworked top and bottom. Some of it I even did sober ;):

Hard to show how much I thinned out the edge; this should give you the idea of it, at any rate

The indents are extremely comfy, and should allow for even easier and more controlled detail work.

Nice work gsom. I know that's many hours worth of work there.

Nicely done! I've done file work before and I know it's tedious and takes a ton of patience and determination. Like, "do I really want to keep doing this even though my wrist is about to implode?". And, to do scales on top of that? Yikes! Lol. Guess that's what is all about though. Looks good brutha

Beautiful work! Which part did you do when sober?
Thanks, friend. Work? Sober? I lied - none of it.
Well, the finish was applied mostly sober - can't drink all day and that gets done every hour or so......

Thanks, Dubz. I try not to think about the time involved, which is easy - when I'm in the flow (and alcohol is in the flow, too) it's just purely meditative. And in the end, I still have a great knife that cuts stuff pretty well.

Thanks! Actually I used diamond files for the filework; I was surprised how quickly it went. Of course, a little more planning and a little (only a little) less beer might have improved the results.....though I'm happy with how it turned out.....though I'll have to look carefully again this morning now that I'm stone cold sober - I'm sure I'll find some nits to pick ;).

Oh my...very, very sexy.

I like the pins better than hidden.

Thanks! Yeah, I turned it over and over trying to figure out the hidden pin thing, and the only solutions I came up with promised a world of hurt with my skillset. I also chose brass pins 'cause the SS is a pita, especially for the really curvy bits like finger indentations.

Excellent.

The maple liners look like 'spalted' brass and match the brass pins.

A 'golden' patina would really set it off.

Thanks! Gold-plated would be more like it....but I can't handle that much bling. Besides, it's just begging to be used. So it'll get whatever patina it gets from cutting shtuff.
