A Buyer's Review;

HTM/DDR moved to Texas? That's news.

Within the past 2-3 weeks, they've been moving shop to a much larger facility in TX. I was quoted a time frame of two weeks, but who knows. Haven't talked to Darrel in a few since I'm dealing with RL things as I mentioned in my other thread.

Thanks for the Faith!
We are still limping along with limited electric.
The Electric company is finally getting off the dime.
We then have to reconnect everything and move forward.
As for the new knives they are doing well.
We are building a few HTM knives at this time.
A light tap on the mid back of the blade is how we test the lock up here.
The issue with the locks last time was NOT the lock itself.
It was the thumb studs.
They have been replaced.
Anyone who has a knife with issues we will take care of you.
Please don't worry about any of that.

As for sharpness... Every knife that leaves this shop shaves.
If you want it sharper, we are listening????????????????????????????????? <"""
Just because an edge feels sharper does not mean it is.

Lets talk about it in a thread. HTM is the new Premier American Made Knife company.
We need all of the input we can get from REAL users...

We appreciate every one of you people.

DDR.

Should I return mine to the above address?
Yep, send it in to the new shop's Texas address with a note describing the issues and they'll take care of it:

I just ordered and received a Darrel Ralph HTM-DDR Gun Hammer Torpedo Manual with CTS_XHP steel thinking that most of the quality issues would be resolved at this time. I have been wanting to get this knife for some time. I held out because of some negative reviews of quality control. Reading the forum it sounded like DDR cleaned house and fixed the issues. So I took the plunge and bought one. I hate to report mine has issues. Not shaving sharp, edge has a small role in one area, missing a back screw, unfinished work on the top of the blade, and the lock is about 90% and sticks bad. It even has some blade play. When ordering the knife I even asked the popular retailer to check for quality control. I'm a little shocked that I received the knife in this condition. I only write this because it appears HTM want's to know. I will be contacting the retailer and I'm sure I will be able to send the knife back. My dilemma is: should I take another chance and ask the retailer to send me another knife or go with another knife company, there is plenty to pick from in this price range. This sucks and is a pain in the ........

Hmmmm. I wonder if your knife could have been from a run that was produced during the time HTM was experiencing QC problems.

I'd recommend that you send your knife to HTM, bui, not to the retailer. And try to get Darrel involved if you can. He needs to see your knife up close and personal.

PS: I had a QC issue with a Bowie I purchased last year and I was able to get Darrel involved in fixing it. Needless to say, my Bowie was repaired properly (and then some). But one way or the other, these issues have got to stop. Darrel is simply too fine a knifemaker to have his reputation sullied by these indignities.

I was going to reserve my comments as well because I do not want to stir the drama pot, but my new GH from GPKnives, the CTS-XHP with gold handles one, came very offcenter and developed vertical play in a few hours. I was absolutely devastated, because I really love the design
Being the sucker I am, I am returning it and getting a manual one from BladeHQ.

I resolved the issue by calling the retailer and talking with a rep. The rep looked at another Gun Hammer they had in stock. The hope was to exchange it with a new one. Unfortunately, that knife had similar issues. The rep apologized for sending the first knife and we decided to go with another knife brand:(. I feel bad because I really wanted a Gun Hammer and like the design. I really don't want to drop names but I will say the retailer is one of the retailers mentioned in the above post and I have never had an issue with them. I as well hope these issues get resolved.

Yikes. Hopefully Darrel takes a look here. These may still be remnants of problems from the previous QC folks, but it's still worth checking.

If anyone else has problems, I'd recommend you contact HTM directly, instead of going through the retailer. The retailer can't do as much other than just send you new knives. And if I were a retailer, I would sure as heck not send out a second one without inspecting it to be sure it's perfect.

I've got 5 now that are all perfect. So good ones DO exist. It sucks you all are having so many problems though.

Honestly at this point, if I was Darrel I would be pulling random knives out of every batch and checking them personally.

I have no intention of abandoning HTM or the Gunhammer, but if the ones at BladeHQ are bad as well than I'm not really sure I have an option at this point. I was genuinely surprised that they were still having issues since the whole QC team being fired incident, it came as a complete shock when just opening and closing it for a few hours caused vertical play in it.

Have you checked with HTM yet? They should be able to take care of you. If not, I might be willing to let go of one of my older ones, depending on what you're looking for. But I'm betting that they'll take care of you.

Just got off the phone with Lacy, I'm sending mine in and they're replacing it with a Maxx Glide version. Now that is incredible customer service, thanks HTM!

Just purchased a Gun hammer from Lacy at the new factory, should be here Monday. Manual, S35V, Let you know the condition of it when it arrives. Have one of the forum blades ordered just wanted to see if Darrels actions are going to make or break his reputation.

Not to mention, if you actually read the entire post, since that didn't get reproduced in it's entirety, you get quite a bit more content. Our "friend" here seems to have deliberately misquoted Darrel to present a specific impression. Perhaps we should just ignore the troll, eh?
