A couple of walking on egg shell questions !!!

That was my first thought but when I re-watched the video it didn't break into that many pieces !

Yes, it did, I think - just not all on video. After it broke in two, Noss did all kinds of further damage to it, like breaking the knife at the tang with a sledge. He pretty much broke it in as many pieces as he could without using lasers. :D The CS SRK broke much worse - instead of just fracturing under the body weight test, it broke in half at that point and became rather useless.

I asked NOSS for the A1 after the test.He graciously sent it to me to add to my collection.(I bet the customs people were slightly perplexed)
On a cool note I just got my second A1 in the mail. Now I have 2 whole ones and 1 not so whole one.

Thank you everyone for the welcome.

I'm looking forward to spending some time reading previous topics here to get a feel for the place :D

Kind regards
Mick

This is very hard oak. It broke the tip off of one knife. The F1 Fallkniven broke it up just fine, with no damage at all.

And still sliced fine. Yeah, they're tough little knives.

I'll throw my short comments in. I have read with great interest about the many gatherings back east. My interest in knives started with "survival". I was a scout master for 32 years and that was my main focus. I own about 20 barkies and 20 busses. In terms of gatherings, there is a great gathering our here (washington) called RAT Mischief every August. Most people involved in SAR groups. I watched one of the best fire buiding/starting displays I have ever seen. One of the SAR guys showed more by doing than I had learned in a long time on how to build a fire in the rain. Last August about 20 guys and 100 knives spent a weekend on a mountain top.
For the record, I do not see Barkies and Busses as direct competitors. More a complementors. BRKT does not make anything like a FFBM and Busse does not make anything like an Aurora. I have both and enjoy both. And when I want to baton a bunch of fire wood I use my Ranger RD9. I still can bring my self to use my RAT Mastiff.
PITDOG, I enjoy your photo threads on all the forums you post on. Thanks.

Care to identify it?

Doc

It was a thin pointed EDC type knife. It was covered under warranty, but the knife was really not made for the prying I did with the tip. The knife was a Swamp Rat Hairy Carry in 154CM stainless. In spite of the fact that I abused the knife, they are sending me a replacement. Their HRLM can easily handle this kind of work.

DOC-CANADA,
In answer to your question about the choils on the Busse Knives. We had a discussion about this on the Busse forum quite a while back and if I remember correctly the choil is an intrigual part of the design as it acts as a stress reliever on the rest of the blade.

Sorry, Horn Dog, I read your post about the HCLE, I just didn't realize it was what you were referring to. Thanks for the reply.

Micky, thanks for the information. Still don't like it though. I do, however, love your signature line. :D:thumbup:

Another Great thread, PB.

The F-1 is a stubby blade with an awesome convex grind. I can't imagine how one could bust it. I just have to buy a larger version :D

I've yet to try the F1. I have an S1 and A1. Both great knives. The F1 is getting closer and closer to joining the others.

Here's a pic of my shiny, new Fox River:

And one more pic after 6 months of use & shamefully neglected:

Doesn't appear to have been hurt at all,but it could stand to be cleaned up a bit:o

It's been through the batoning deal...didn't hurt it .

It's scraped the firesteel...never hurt it.

I think I'll.............................keep it.

I don't see why some people shy away from 1095. My Rat-7 did a fine job on a camping trip with my father. It went through some knotty and hard seasoned wood that day. I beat it violently just to see if it handle the abuse that everyone said it should be able to. Although it got rotated to out for something smaller(I live in NJ). I still use it once in awhile just to split fire wood for the fire ring in the back yard.

My guess the reason Busses aren't used as much is they cost so much and lose lots of value with one little scratch. Mentally easier to beat on a $150 knife than a $650 knife. Of course I have a few pristine BRKT's that I should use too.
