A Day in the Half Life of munk

OK, I'll get the drinks in. Leave the khuks at home. Trust me on that one.

Funnily enough I went to Queen Mary College in London. Are you staying in London or off to pastures new?

I live in North London at the moment, I was planning on leaving the Khuks at home but was considering taking a Bilton, for 'kitchen purposes'. At the moment it looks as though I am going to Sheffield or Southampton (to do History/Philosophy Joint Honours) which will be cool. Hopefully into the army after that. Actually I have a friend at QMC, doing Medcine IIRC. My girlfriend is currently considering doing forensics at QM as well.

Where abouts are you? I take it you didn't stick around in London.

Take a kitchen knife for kitchen purposes. If someone complains you've got an offensive weapon on site, you are in big trouble. That's just how it is. Silly, but there you are. Leave-the-khuks-at-home.

Heh, I did history myself. I warn you in advance, beyond helping me sharpen my arguementative bastid skills, it hasnt been of much use otherwise. What are you looking to do in the army?

Nope, I didnt stick around. London was too expensive and to be honest not the right place for me at that time. I'm in Manchester now, which has a nice compromise of being cosmopolitan without being too crowded, polluted or expensive. One day I will retire somewhere rural, where I can meditate and read.

On the matter of being hard up, I was a bread and potatoe chip man. Being as they are precooked, instant food and no cooking expenses!

And Munk, you are right about people. I think you'll be right about divine judgement as well.

Well I woke up Sunday morning
with no way to hold my head
that didn't hurt
and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't
bad so I had one more for dessert

Then I fumbled through my closet
for my clothes
and found my cleanest dirty shirt

I like the Shawn Mullins version, but Kris is good, too. Hell of a writer.

Ramen is good. One can stretch it by adding a spoonful of sesame seeds (cheap, if you live near an Asian market), some jalapenos or other peppers, and an egg or two. Yum. :)

Yeah, that is the most likely plan at the moment. Shame really, they would look good on the walls ;) .

Yeah, London is expensive, it can be daft at times. I am planning on going into the Army as an officer, hopefully will wind up in the Royal Engineers but Infantry would suit me fine. After that I guess I will go into teaching or whatever comes up, we shall see I guess. I love the countryside as well, grew up there most of the time, but towns arent too bad. Sheffield is going to be interesting.

Munk, when I first read your post this AM I found it moving and eloquent. It actually reminded me a bit of that song by Kris Kristoffersen. No kidding. This was before you quoted the song.

You done much writing? Keep at it. I've suspected that creative genius almost only appears among hormone-and-angst-ridden teens and 20-somethings. But then there are others...

I should clarify thinking about retirement at age 47; that is the age most people look the future and see the end.

My job is raising the sons I made.

Hey that's a great job. Was it Winston Churchill who said that "the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world"?

We hear all this bullshit from politicians about "Family Values". Basically that means censorship and anti abortion. However really think how much better off we all would be if one parent could stay home. Less daytime break ins. Less police needed. Less kids growing up unsupervised.

I'd like to see a family values agenda that made it affordable for more parents to do what you are doing. I'd like see more businesses give their employees Sunday off. I always eat at Chik Fil A and other places that let their employees off on Sunday.

Good for you Munk for figureing out how to do it. You're doing a lot more to bring good kids into the world that a lot of folks.
