Hi guys!

Today I didn´t go to work, so I decided yesterday that I would da daywalk in the bavarian woods. I took my rucksack, some tools, a camera and a waterbottle and went on. The weahter was bad, rain and very windy. But does a real man care about that?! So I walked on

Theese are two pics where you can see my hometown, from my starting point and how the weather was... ;)

When the weather is nice you can see the high mountains... on this pic there is also Austria and Bavaria (I live on the border at the river Inn)

Otter Jagdmesser with Staghandles, GEC # 66 Serpentine Jack and a Zippo lighter were my only tools for that walk

Nice trail through the forest

I don´t know what happened to this guy... but it wasn´t my fault.

I didn´t need any feathersticks, but it´s good to know, that it works

German-american friendship ;)

And some impressions on the very nice forest

After rain, there is a little stream, but it didn´t rain for long, so there was nearly no water in it.

That´s nature for me... a one-year-old-pine-tree (hoping no deer or rabbit will eat it)

A couple of oaks in their everlasting struggle against wind and rain...

No, I didn´t split that with that knife... just a joke ;)

It was a great day for me. Outside, not much baggage. Lot of fresh air and no noise from cars, trucks and all that stuff. I love thoose days!

I hope, you guys enjoyed the pics... I´m looking forward for some critics!

Kind regards

Andi,
thanks for sharing. I've seen some of the German woods and I really enjoyed walking there.
Oh, and nice knives you got there :)

Nice pics! But I have to wonder about your gear for the day. No flask with schnapps!? Are you sure you're really Bavarian!? :p

Great stuff! My father always said that that area of Bavaria was the most beautiful place on earth - especially around Koenigsee. one day....

Hi Mark... Well Schnaps usually not... but a little barrel of beer would be more my taste of that... Unfortunatelly had to find my out of the forest, so left the beer at home :D

@wintermute: Yes, it´s really nice here in Bavaria. Especially when you´re not in the big cities like Munich or Nürnberg you can really enjoy that place on earth. I´m sure, you get here at any time.

Thank you guys, for your replies so far!

Kind regards

Bravo!! I've been patiently waiting for your Bavarian woods outing pictures. Fantastic fantasy forests around you. Love the pic of your starting point of your hometown. I wish someday to walk through the woods in Austria and the high mountains all around there. You must live close to Bad Reichenhall and the Berchdesgardener Alps.

Thanks Andi for sharing your excursion into the woods with us. I patiently wait for the next Sojourn.

Great pics Andi! That is a beautiful place to live! I could walk the woods all day everyday.

That's a good knife combo for a companion too.

Yes, that´s right. Berchtesgadener Alpen and Bad Reichenhall are about 80 - 100 kilometres away from my hometown. I have only 60 kilometres to Salzburg and I´m directly in the alps.
The pic of my hometown is taken to southsouthwest, so when weather is clear you can see the whole alps (Dachstein, Hohe Tauern, Niedere Tauern, Watzmannmassiv - google for it)... an absolutelly outstanding panorama. It´s great to live where other people go for holidays and pay a lot of bucks for it :)

I´m glad you like it. The forest, I was is nearby where I grew up. When we were kids, we used to play in theese woods. We built little camps and such things (tryed hunting with selfmade bow & arrow - but we never succeded ;) ) So I know every stone and tree at its surname.

I spent 2 1/2 yrs in Bayreuth in the early 70's and really enjoyed it. Spent all my leave time traveling around Southern Europe. I have great memories from that time.--KV

Great pictures, Andi!

I did a lot of hiking in the area around Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Fussen. Made some trips down to the forest areas and drove my little VW around those mountains. One of the most beautiful areas I've ever ben to. And great beer at the end of the day at a nice little inn. :thumb up:

Thank you Carl... I was thinking about taking a beer with me, but one is none and two are too much for the early afternoon. :) The area around Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Füssen is also nice. When have you been there?

I have always considered it paradise ever since I saw pictures of the place. One of my bucket lists items is to fly in a glider in the Wasserkuppe. I will goggle the areas you mentioned. Thanks.

Back when I was in the army, I was stationed at an Engineer unit at the U.S. base in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Great duty, and I used all my free weekends to tour around and hike. This was the mid 60's. If they had left it to me, I'd have done my whole army career there! I loved Germany.

Very cool Andi, thanks for sharing. That skull you found with one antler left looks just like one my girl and I found a few weeks ago. Same antler and all :)

Yeah... I was thinking taking that antler with me, maybe I can need it, if some of may bone / stag scales break... I think I will return there and take it home :)

@carl: Good to hear that you like Germany, especially Bavaria... I met some Americans, from Washington State (not D.C.) in a bavarian restaurant a few weeks ago. The girl who brought them their beer wasn´t very good in english and she knew me... So I tried to explain what a Schweinshaxe is... (it´s a roasted leg of a pig where salt, herbs and things are added and roasted for about one or two hours) Was quiet strange for me, but some kind of funny. Dad and I drank with the Americans a beer, til we went back to work... Nice lunch.

Kind regards
Andi
