A day walk in the bavarian woods *Updated pics*

Nice pics! A day in the woods alone is never wasted!

I'll +1 this! ;)

Thanks for posting, Andi. Looking at your pics is refreshing - next best thing to being there! There's something calming about the woods that restores a person.

Hi Andi. Very nice pictures. It dawned on me this morning that there used to be (I think) a U.S. Base in Augsburg, Germany -- near you I believe or at least in Bavaria. A lot of the guys that were stationed there thought highly of the countryside and hiking and camping activities there.

German forests are astounding in beauty because of the work of the German foresters. I've never seen such immaculate forest with such an air of order about it. Walking through the forest there is like walking through an outdoor cathedral. The members of the German forest service take their job very serious, and do an amazing job of maintaining the pristine look of the woods there.

Carl.

Hi Ed!

Augsburg is in Bavaria, but in the district called "Schwaben". I´m on the other side of Bavaria. I already spent some time in Schwaben. It´s also pretty nice there. Augsburg it pretty nice, especially the historic parts.

I´m glad, that you guys like the south-eastern-bavarian-countryside. When weather is better, I gonna post some panorama pics of my home (with knives, for sure, not being OT). Then you can see a very great part of the whole Alps.

Kind regards
Andi

Not just the forest service. A lot of guys like to work in the woods. Like my dad and me. The firewood is for free. But just on dry or dyed out trees. The forest-authority calls guys like dad and me to clean up the woods. And for free firewood, when cutting out dead trees, that´s a great work. I love it very much. Tomorrow, Dad and I gonna go there... next winter will come for sure.

Some of the woods are in private ownership. We also have some parts of the wood I were in today. We use to keep it clean and re-foresting, of course.

The greatest work in the world, I could imagine!

Kind regards
Andi

A classic american pocket knife and a beautiful German fixed blade....
Germany has always been on my top 5 list of places i want to go, seems like a very beautiful place.

Please post more pictures when Spring really begins to take action, I don't get to see many pictures of Germany.

Thanks for posting

Great photos, Andi! Looks like some beautiful countryside where you live! And that new GEC serpentine jack looks right at home in the Bavarian forests!

Best Regards,
Ron

Nice photos Andi, nothing beats day in forest to recharge batteries (well, maybe sailing ;) )

Thanks for the guided tour, Andi! It indeed looks like a beautiful place!!

Andi;

When I lived there (25 years ago now) I was a member of the local volksmarch club. I spent a fair number of weekends walking the woods and hills. We tried to do 2 on the weekends when we could. I spent a lot of time out in the field, so we couldn't march those days, but I still managed to get my 50 march pin in a few years. I posted some city photos in your other thread.

Hi guys!

Thank you for posting your nice replies! I gonna make some more pics, when spring has really arrived. But Carl told the termin, I didn´t know. He called it an "outdoor cathredral" when thinking about it, that´s the truth, especially when walking through the old part of any forest. :)

@ozar: You really should go here and also take a walk through that woods... I´d be glad. I gonna post some more pics about the bavarian woods in spring.

@ron: Nice to see you again :) the #66 has a good home here in Germany ... really nice to see you again :)

@rino: Yes, sailing might also be relaxing, though it can be hard work. I never did that, but maybe... ;)

@kevin: 2 walks per weekend... that´s really a lot... you guys must have been really fit! I remember your pic about Munich and the Hofbräuhaus and the Münchner Kindl :)

Kind regards
Andi

Beautiful. Thanks for the pics. I am lucky to live in a beautiful part of the USA. Northern California Redwood forests are breathtaking just like yours.

. . . No flask with schnapps!? Are you sure you're really Bavarian!? :p

:D LOL .. I was thinking the exact same thing!

That looks like a very nice place to walk around.
It reminds me of Oregon. Cool how a half a world away things are so much alike.

awesome pics Andi....you almost take us there  seeing these photos makes me want to for a good walk in the bush!

Andi, those are beautiful woods, beautiful knives, and beautiful photos. Thanks for putting them up.

From one Andi/Andy to another.:)
