I was in my 40's before I finally admitted that between the way I saw it, and reality - reality always won.
But not every oldtimer has something to learn from, at least in the things they try to teach you. Cant, just cant, ( see the dictionary definition ). I've met many "pseudo-wisemen" who if they couldn't cram it down your throat they'd try to shove it up the other end of the aliamentary canal.
I think it was in '99 I went online and found Uncle Bill. He had honesty AND humility, and made comments only on what he'd learned the hard way.
That's when I finally understood respect for elders. The ones that have and deserve respect have humility enough to be painfully honest. That's how you separate the fulsome from the men of wisdom. Uncle Bill, Yvsa, and many on this forum have much wisdom for the listening. Kismet too. Munk and I are in the middle stages - we still have much to learn and less and less time to learn it in.
Uncle Bill wants this place to stay a haven for those in need of one. I want it to stay what it is at present so those who are beginning to learn fom their elders ( like me ) can do so.
Honesty, Humility, and one more thing that you find here - LOVE for their fellow strugglers and stragglers. That is what makes for an elder honored and respected.
