A device for naturally sharpening your knives

Steve, if it's not for your wife, there are a bunch of gay aquatic animals in the Whine and Cheese forum who are just going to LOVE you.

Uh, just teasing there :footinmou I'm only gay in the old sense of the word, and queer in the sense that I like my blades bent.

It's not for me, but I have a friend that wants to know if you are talking like fish, narwals, otters, mermen ~ ???? Like I said, it's for a friend.

Seriously, what is going on in the Whine and Cheese? Should I put on my kevlar skivvies before slithering hither? In 5 years at bladeforums I don't think I've ever visited there.

Well, there ARE mentions of gay manatees. Among a WHOLE lot of other things. My lips are sealed. Or, at least, walrused.

Hey Raggy, I just noticed that you have a peyote under your nicorettes? How did you get that and what does it mean?

Totally off topic, any of you guys like Napolean Dynamite? Pedro for President.........

It's an ICQ flower. I never use the program, I just like it because it's like adding another medal to my South American general's uniform.

Pedro offers you his protection. :D :D :D

what the hell IS that thing?
DIJ, I'd really like too know whutinthahell it is too!!!! :D ;)

Does anyone have any credulous ideas as too what the device is?
At first glance I thought it might be some kind of homemade black powder flask but since it doesn't have a measuring dispenser I've pretty much ruled that out.

Looks to me like the primitive whet stone was made on a primitive lathe and a primitive table saw ...

Using my belt grinder naked? :D That about the only way I can think
of natural sharpening or would I use a waterwheel to power my
grinder? Natural sharpening is really a bizzare concept  , I guess chipping a flint edge might qualify, I can't think of anything that is natuarally sharp except shark teeth..... somebody should turn that guy in to ebay, that's unethical.....or stupidity to the point of being immoral....one of the two.....

just for posterity here 'tis

ANTIQUE WOODEN WHET STONE PRIMITIVE HAND MADE

THIS IS AN AMAZING FIND! Here we have a primitive Whet Stone. It is had made carved wood and is exactally 10" from the top to the bottom tip of the point. It is also 9" around the tip. It has the initals J.T. on it. I didn't know what this was but I heard that hunters use to put small rocks and water in it then place their knife in it and clip it to their waist so the knife would sharpen while they hunted. Very Unique find and super special considering the age of it. I wiped down the outside but not the inside. This item is such a conversation piece I can only imagian it on display somewhere. Just think Some guy had to have this many many years ago as a means to survive. Check out my other items and I will combine shipping. Thanks for looking. Check out my other items!

This is super special. I love knives sharpening by themselves, in the Natural way.

I love 'considering the age of it' Yeah, how many weekends ago did JT carve his inititials? You know, that time at the picnic he got sick and threw up all over the potato salad?

The inside looks like it has been used as a mortar, maybe some grinding? The only historical thing I could think of would be as a salt carrier, or perhaps sugar--that is if it had a top at one time.

The carving actually looks like it was turned on a lathe. Dunno. C'mon Dean, you find out about stuff better than anyone. Here's a challenge. :)

Someone dinged me rep points for posting this. The (unidentified) person says "auction-spotting. No-no!"

I was hoping no one here would catch on to my plot to accumulate wealth by promoting natural knife sharpening devices. Some of the folks here are just too "naturally sharp" to be fooled by my plans!

Gee, Howard, you're just one of a whole passel of sinners here. As you know, and as our officious twit does not, we frequently alert each other to silly auctions, and that violates no rule at BF or HI Forum. Net result is more water for your cacti. :)

It's probably someone who's going to bid on the item. If no one knows about it, he can get it for cheap.

You didn't add a "not mine".
:)

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Howard Wallace again.

I had a closer look at the item and conclude that it's a survival plumb bob owned by former president Jhomas Tefferson who was mildly dislexic.

It's probably worth a fortune. :)

Must've been some ignorant dumbass from another forum that doesn't know how we operate here. And why don't these dumbasses have the courage to post their names when they ding someone, or at least the courage to post on the thread saying it's a no-no? :grumpy:

Anyway, I also gave you rep points, more than makes up fer what ya lost anyway, or should.:D ;)
