Well, sense Im moving back to Nova Scotia, I now have a great reason to buy a new knife. :D

But this time around, Im going for something diffrent. I wan't a knife with a 7" blade in stainless:eek:

Why you ask? Well, its very wet. :D Im going to be doing a fair amount of cannoing, plus most of the camping I did back there it was either in wet, or raining conditions. I had a hell of a time with the only chopper I had at the time, which was carbon steel. No matter how much I cleaned it, or kept it oiled it allways formed rust spots. And just for the record, I can't put my BK7 through that, so Im looking in stainless.

So, now the nitty gritty. I'm looking for something in comparable size to the BK7, in weight and length but in stainless, and avalible (if you can, all sugestions are greatly appreciated) in canada and under $140.

So far, I've come up with 1, Sog Seal 2000. I like the geometry, weight 12.6 oz, BK7 is 12.9, the sheath and most everything about it, but to get it in canada, Im pushing my limit at $139.99

So what do you guys think?

I'd throw out a vote for a RAT 7 in D2 which is almost stainless and probably enough so to suit your needs. I used to own a SOG Seal 2000 and the edge was way too obtuse for much use. After thinning the edge she was a right proper usable blade :)

Perhaps a Saami Leuko? Take a look at the Ragweed Forge site--you can buy a knife or buy a blade and make one.

The only thing about the ss ka-bar is I dont like the look, haha.

I dont know, I know about the edge being obtuse on the seal, and frankly I have no problem thinning it out. I just dont know whats all out there for SS 7" fixedblades.

Rat 7...I could throw alot more at you, but nothing close to your price range.
Buy a 7" puuko for $60 bucks, keep it oiled and strop it up for use often...when it turns black...who gives a crap. Great knife that will hold an edge.

Some Blackjack stainless steel models that may work for your purposes.
(1) Blackjack Marauder, if you can find one (IIRC models are MK-1, MK-1a, Reinhardt Khukri, and the 14" long MK-2)
(2) Blackjack Quick (AUS-8, 10" blade)
(3) Blackjack Grunt (AUS-8, 5.5" blade)

The Blackjack Marauder MK-1 is pretty neutral and quick in the hand, which is a characteristic I remember from my work with a BK-7. Which is odd for the MK-1's longer blade length. The relatively thin stock (compared to heft of Busse 1/4-inchers) and saber grind gave decent penetration when chopping with the MK-1. The handle reminds me of the Busse Basic/old Swamp Rat/ScrapYard handle shape. Picture below of a MK-1, below a Becker BK-9 Combat Bowie for size comparison.

I can't speak about the Quick or Grunt models, since I haven't ever handled them.

How about tha Fallknivn a2 7&1/2 inch blade vg10 core with laminated 420 ss highle stain resistant super strong high quality convex grind I've seen them for around 180-190 a little pricey but from my experiences with the smaller f1 so far well worth it.

I personaly like the sog seal 2000 once the edge is "touched" up. Go on the bay you should get one shipped for less than $100.00. I have got them for as cheap as $54.00 once.

The new CS Recon Tanto is in AUS8 and has a 7" blade.

For stainless knives watch out for bead-blasting. It might make them look more "tactical" but it also makes them rust faster than carbon steel, defeating the purpose of having a stainless blade in the first place.

SOG Tigershark just came up for sale on the forum..$85 shipped, it says it has a reprofiled edge.

I have that CS OTF but mine has a double edge and says "Survial Rescue;" neat little knife...Any idea if its worth anything?

I'm when Ed Schemps H-1 camp Knife is coming out but it has 1/8th thick blade that is 7 inches. If it comes out soon you ought to consider it.
