A do it all folder

Easy, an Endura. If you're concerned about it getting all gross on the inside, get a Pacific Salt and toss it in the dishwasher. My open knives seem to get more crap in them, or at least its more noticeable.

In case the Ti Lite looked like it was all handle and a wimpy blade here is a better full profile perspective and right next to a Military.

Nice compact package when closed. Takes some work to get one though. (or some shipping time to one of the fine craftspeople here to grind ‘er into shape. WORTH IT !

Of course you will want to get a Military as well because they are so freekin’ cool.
I'm just saying . . .

I would say cold steel 4max but its a little heavy... Military is a fantastic knife, only available in tip down config tho. ZT 0560-0561 should fit the bill pretty well

The Para Military 2 is a bit shorter than the 4" specified, but I mention it because its excellent compression lock also permits open construction, it is light for its size, slices well, and it's a solid all around performer.

If you count 'em up, I think the Millie is far ahead of the rest. And, probably, it deserves to be.
S30V is a good steel; Jim Ankerson carried this model in S30V for a long time here on the forum.

These are all excellent suggestions. I must say I am torn between Endura, Pacific Salt and Military. The millie is, as I said, on the upper end of my budget, but I found one with an excellent price tag. I am waiting for e-mail from the shop, maybe I should just make a phonecall and check it out. So if the price holds I will get that millie, if not I might take a look at and handle a Pacific salt or Endura. I have no idea how the steel on the Salt handles whittling and working with wood in general?

It's actually not to bad. I used my H1 dragonfly to whittle for hours on the beach and it still had a pretty good edge on it at the end of the day. H1 is also in my experience one of the easiest steels to put a razor edge back on, mossy of the time I skip the stone entirely abs just strop it.

Sounds good. There is an all-black Pacific Salt available in a shop nearby so I could have it right away. I have to think about this option if I don't hear about the shop with the millie.

Edit: I called the shop with the millie and the price is right, so I will get the Military. Thanks's for the discussion! Cant wait to get the knife and put it to work.

I will spend a lot of time this summer at the cottage so there will be lot's of opportunities to use the knife. Also will take trip where the knife will be usefull.

Endura, Military, or slightly sturdier and a great value if you can find it = the discontinued BM HK axis-lock 14715

Hi! I think the Pacific Salt it’s a great holidays knife (specially at the seaside). I love mine and it’s my go-to folder for the summers but I wouldn’t consider it as my primary tool for wood working. I don’t own the Military so can’t say about but I own the PM2 and, while it’s OK for me for “minor” woodworking (whittling, carving, notching, etc.), I wouldn’t carry this as my primary outdoor folder in the woods or on the trails. Mainly because of the tip of the blade, which I find to be on the “delicate” side for a truly “heavy duty” working knife. It’s an amazing slicer for my uses, but more for light duty tasks and food prep. Good luck and have fun :)!

On the heavy end.....ZT 0909. On the lighter side.....Spyderco Endura with the Saber Grind.

Another vote for spyderco military. The plain jane s30v/g10 version in good/great condition can be had around $100 here at the Exchange. I would skip Endura and save a bit for the millie.

Another vote for Cold Steel 4max. Apparently it's the closest to a fixed blade anyone can buy, except Demko custom.

Got it today. I really have to find something to cut! This feels so right, everything has been thought out. I might carry this in my back pocket, this way the tip down clip will not matter. Eveybody knows how a black handle/satin blade millie looks so no pictures this time.

I have a capable option that fits the criteria and sits at the low end of ANY budget (though it may not win any beauty contests): Cold Steel Kudo.

Just an idea: has anyone ever used the lanyard hole to attach a tip up clip to Military? The hole is quite small for a lanyard, but the right size for a bolt.
