Hello folks - Just started trying my hand at knives so I thought I would post them up for feedback / comments. WSS seemed the best place as this is where I spend most of my time and they are all woods knives
All work done by hand, only power tool I have is a small drill press.
The Leather handled knives are Carbon steel Polar blades (66mm / 100mm) with handles of stacked and compressed 7/8oz
veg tanned leather and Brass fittings. These take an unbelievable amount of time / effort but produce one of the
best grips I have ever felt. Leather washers cut one at time to the tang shape, compressed for 24 hours then
removed and added back with epoxy along tang then compressed again for curing. The finish is created by sanding /
greasing / sanding greasing from 60grit up to 2000grit. I use Gold Quality Leaderfelt" for the grease. It takes 2
days of greasing and sanding to do well. Has to be felt to be believed very hard yet grippy.
Last polar 66 is in madagascar ebony (I think?) with white spacers and nickel silver fittings. The wood is very
hard - got it from the turning blanks at lee valley.
All of the full-tang knives are blades from maker Ivan Campos and are differentially hardened 1070 spring steel with
scandi grinds. I love this steel for scandi edges as it is very tough and does not chip easily as some other
steels. Woods are: White Ebony, Cocobolo, and Stabilized Spalted Maple. The coco is the lightest i have seen.
