a few knives I made

Hello folks - Just started trying my hand at knives so I thought I would post them up for feedback / comments. WSS seemed the best place as this is where I spend most of my time and they are all woods knives :)

All work done by hand, only power tool I have is a small drill press.

The Leather handled knives are Carbon steel Polar blades (66mm / 100mm) with handles of stacked and compressed 7/8oz

veg tanned leather and Brass fittings. These take an unbelievable amount of time / effort but produce one of the

best grips I have ever felt. Leather washers cut one at time to the tang shape, compressed for 24 hours then

removed and added back with epoxy along tang then compressed again for curing. The finish is created by sanding /

greasing / sanding greasing from 60grit up to 2000grit. I use Gold Quality Leaderfelt" for the grease. It takes 2

days of greasing and sanding to do well. Has to be felt to be believed very hard yet grippy.

Last polar 66 is in madagascar ebony (I think?) with white spacers and nickel silver fittings. The wood is very

hard - got it from the turning blanks at lee valley.

All of the full-tang knives are blades from maker Ivan Campos and are differentially hardened 1070 spring steel with

scandi grinds. I love this steel for scandi edges as it is very tough and does not chip easily as some other

steels. Woods are: White Ebony, Cocobolo, and Stabilized Spalted Maple. The coco is the lightest i have seen.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with them all :) running out of room. No sheaths yet - seems I

procrastinate on that as much as possible. As long as there is another knife to make I just pass on the sheath

makings.

I want to give a big thank you to Bruce Culberson for inspiring me to try my hand at this and sending me my first scales and pins! Bruce - you rock.

Anyways, thanks for looking! Any feedback or comments are greatly welcomed!

Cheers,
Klammer

Excellent job, klammer! I especially like the leather handled one.

No problem - my birthday's this month. :D

I can haz? Plz? lol I like the full tangs but did you make the blades? Either way awesome job on the handles!

Terrific stuff! I'm in the middle of a few stick tang knife projects right now and am inspired by your knives to get them finished. I've got to try the leather stack.

By the way, how did you go about compressing them? Does it make a big difference? I suppose I could use some threaded rod and some washers to do it, but is it necessary?

I turn 26 in May ( I accept early gifts) :D :D :D

I really like the last three on your last picture... but all of them are beautiful...

I like your knives a lot.A few colored spacers would really look nice in the leather stack handle.I have used the vulcanized fiber in the past but am trying bow building glass now because it is more stable.I assume the fiber would be just as stable as leather though.

Thanks for all the comments - I really appreciate it!

Brisa has a really good tutorial on stacked leather handles:

I pretty much used it as my guide with a few small changes. They have pics of easy to make rigs for compressing. I use one with 2 threaded steel rods and 2 steel plates. I want to try birch bark next!

mm hmm. .ack.. wow. PM sent!

Great looking knives! The stacked leather handles are just outstanding! Beautiful work.

I don't think any of those would last long in the Knife Maker's For Sale Area of the forum. ;)

Awesome knives you made!
All the knives are really wonderful but I like the hidden tang knives especially.
Would love to see the sheaths, too.

Again, you've done amazing works! Thanks for sharing.
