Well my friends of the porch, this will probably be my final GAW. Things have not gone well with my battle with cancer. Without going into all the details, suffice to say I've come to a point where a decision was to be made. Surgery and treatments are no longer viable options so I have decided to suspend all further attempts and try to enjoy my time left, however long that might be. Nobody knows. It wasn't an easy decision and has been very trying for family. Especially my grandson. He's taking the news the hardest of all.
Anyways, I want to thank each and everyone of the porch members for all the love, support, and understanding. You've all been amazing! And I'm a better person for being welcomed into this fine group. Now I want to give back a little. There's not a whole lot left as I've had to sell much of my collection to help ends meet. I have a couple items of interest though (I think). A couple of them I won in other GAW's, so I'd like to pass them along as well.
To qualify, just state "I'm in" or something to that effect. I'd like this to be open to anyone in the traditionals forum with at least 100 posts here in said forum.
I'll let this run for the week and end it next Sunday 8/14/16 at 12:00 PM EST. Good luck everyone. :D
The prizes;
1st; A GEC 85 in Antique Yellow Bone. The knife has been used and shows a little patina (I cleaned it up) and a minor scuff or two. I also thinned the top spine of the blade so it's a more narrow spear rather than the factory fat spear. I also rounded the butt end a bit. It carries nicely in the pocket.

2nd; A very nice Laquiole L'Aiglon. Nice traditional French folder.

3rd; A British Army Knife.

4th; A Lansky Sharpening Kit with a Stand.

Oh, Bob... Thank you for being friendly and sharing your knowledge with me. I think it goes without saying that we love you. (no entry, I would just sell the knives and send you the money anyway)

Not an entry Bob, I have had and continue to have you in my thoughts and prayers my friend. Several of us will be in contact soon and know many, many, many forum members aka, brothers, sisters and friends hold you in very high regard!!!

You are at the center of something we hope to announce soon...

Prayers every day and night from North Dakota Bob as well as the US and abroad.

We will be in touch!!!

All I can say Bob is I made the same decision 4 years ago and I hope yours goes as well as mine. I'll be thinking of you as your Red Sox and the Yanks meet this week. I don't know how old your grandson is but if I were to win, he gets whatever I would have. Peace to you.

Alan

Thoughts and prayers from this North Dakotan as well... Life is a funny thing... nobody knows how much time we get to spend here. I am much more of a lurker here on the traditional forum rather than an everyday poster but in my estimation, they don't make people any better than right here. You and others like you are the reason this place is so special. I'm not the most religious man in the world but I said a prayer for you right now. Much love from my family to yours... Hug up that grandson and let him know that everything is going to be just fine, and then slip that 85 in his pocket. I know I wish I had more of my granddad's knives! If not I'm definitely in... would be an honor to own one of your knives sir!

Will be praying for you Bob. For strength and comfort for you and your family.

I'd be honored to give something from you a good home!

Not an entry. I just wanted to say thanks for making me feel welcome when I got here. Prayers sent for you and your family.

Thanks fellas. My grandson is 15 right now. I've saved a few special knives to pass on to him, so no worries there. ;)

I don't have the words, Bob. I cannot imagine how difficult this must be for your family but you and they are and have been in my prayers. Your kindness and generosity here has always been inspiring and appreciated. I will continue to pray that you find comfort and peace. We love you brother!

Well my friend I knew this was your decision from our conversations but don't you give up. Bob I will enter your GAW because it would be a honor to own another one of your knives but if I were to win the value of the knife would come back to you in cash. By the way you can't stop me because I already have your PayPal info. :D Here is one of my most prized possessions the WW2 era Camillus Radio Jack you gifted me.

Bob my friend we are all better here because of the example you have been for us. I can not enter your GAW because I have several knives that came from you and I want someone else to have that privilege. One in particular came as a gift and was your way of an introduction, in which you taught me about shenanigans right from the beginning. ;) I have used them several times since myself. You are in mine and Pam's prayers daily my friend. We will be in touch.

Wow Bob! I love your post here on the porch and though we never met face to face we have exchanged a bit and I enjoy seeing your pictures every day in the carry thread.

This news comes heavy to many of us, myself certainly included but I'm glad just a bit to see you are making decisions with your time.

Many times the most you can do is pray for each other and I will continue to pray for you and your family. It means a lot to me that you have kept us updated with with something so personal.

Thank you Bob, we love you.

God bless you, Bob. You've certainly helped make this forum a better place during your time here. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

Count me in, I'd love a shot at that Laguiole or British Army knife.

Sorry to hear about your battle with cancer, may it go better than the Docs expect it. I'm actually waiting to hear back about my CT scans from my Doc. The blasted wait is like having the sword of Damocles over your head.

I would be honored to carry a knife of your's, Bob. I can never imagine the stress and pain that went into your decision, Bob. This is not the end, though, and I know your strength and resolve will carry you forever. As someone whose family has been affected by cancer on 6 different occasions, I know the feeling of being the son, brother, nephew, and grandchild of someone fighting. Your strength and love will carry them all. Let that not be your burden, as, in my experience, it is always a gift.

Much love from my family to yours, Bob. Take care, keep fighting, keep loving. This is not your end.

Bob Not an entry thank you, I have all those knives and it would be wrong to take one when other knife enthusiasts don't have one at all. And that's what it's all about, generosity and altruism, qualities you've shown here in great amounts, and humour:D I'm very sad to read your news but I greatly respect your dignity and courage. Whatever happens, your love of others, your family and knives will never be erased. You've shown compassion for others I offer mine in return.

Many thanks, Will

Not an entry. Will pray for you and your family. God Bless.

Prayers to you and your family. I lost my brother-in-law, who was married to my wife's sister, to cancer at age 41. He had four daughters and was a good man.

[I am modifying my original post do to the sentimental value of what you are offering.] This is not an entry, but in your and my brother-in-law's honor I am donating $100 to fight cancer. God Bless.
