John Powell is in worse trouble than I thought and a couple of forumites want to help. I thought perhaps there might be more who would like to pitch in so here's the story.

John's back (too many carrier landings) has been giving him a hell of a time. His insurance company reneged and the VA wouldn't help even though he's logged more combat missions than just about any pilot in the Navy. Bottom line: Every cent he had is gone to pay for medical expenses. Essentially, he doesn't know where his next meal is coming from. He told me he would have to decline my offer to move to Reno because he didn't have enough money to move or store his stuff.

I'm going to send him a hundred bucks which will keep him in McDonald hamburgers for a week or two. Anybody else who wants to help can send a check to:

John Powell
737 Northpoint
San Francisco, CA
94109

Or you can contact John at:

JPSF@sbcglobal.net

I told him to set up a paypal account so he could receive money via the net.

Here's an old vet who put it on the line in Nam, Somalia, and Desert Storm who is now in real trouble. I figure he's worth a hundred bucks or two even if the VA doesn't -- the ba$tards.

Guys,
Most of the time we kid ,exchange insults & info BUT this time it's personal! JP is one of our own,"WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN"!! JP, has never asked for anything from anyone at any time!$sent!

Uncle Bill, any chance of using the HI Paypal account to send him money? Not sure if that's too much to ask, or if it screws up your accounting.

Thanks.

I asked John to set up a paypal account but have not heard back from him. If worse comes to worse you can send it here but I'll have to figure out a way to avoid paying income tax on it. All the governmental agencies are nothing but a big pain in the a$$.

Dunno know how far it's been taken, but how to find one of the few lawyers who take on stuff like this because it's wrong what happened, and they want to fix it, might be some good help. Payment is often a portion of any award, or sometimes, they donate their time. Me, I dunno how one finds such a lawyer. Anyone? (I don't know how to find a "good" dentist either.)

If John hasn't set up his PayPal account by tomorrow at about this time, I'll send a check.

I am waiting for another reply and will soon send it. I am terrible at Paypal! Can only work with requests!! Waiting for John's reply.

Gentleman, a true expert of Khuks need our help, we should join forces.
Together we are strong as you already know. This is such a wonderful place.

Regards

Manoucher

Uncle Bill, PayPal works to the email address that you posted. Got confirmation email from them. Thanks.

I am so deeply touched by everyones help I cannot begin to thank you all.

I do have to clarify Bill's highly over the top statements about my career. I was just doing my duty and was proud to serve my country long ago.

My wife had surgery a few years ago. The bill came to over $12,000, but then deals made with the insurance company kicked in and it was discounted to under $3,000.

Due to insurance, the doctors are adding on every test and procedure, and consultation they can think of - like a lady that takes a car that isn't running right to the car dealership. She's going to get flat out robbed by them.

John is in a bind because the insurance company reneged. That means the doctors thought he had insurance and ran him thru the mill and gave him the full treatment. He's being charged without insurance by a factor of four what he'd have been billed for if the insurance had stuck with him.

Your average doctor is now on the level of a cheating auto mechanic just to get paid a decent recompence.

And the insurance companies gyp the doctors and hospitals so they have to raise the rates on non-insured. So the uninsured are taken for a ride to pay for the insured who don't pay their share, and the uninsured who can't pay.

It's long overdue to march on the insurance companies and hospitals with good manilla rope and string up a bunch from the nearest light pole.

PS: now do you understand why I wear my ccw into doctors appointments and tests, and by God, into the hospital if I get taken there? I'm a revolver fan but I'm keeping a good 13+1 auto and spare mags to go with me to the hospital. It's a target rich environment. And as one nurse said, they have people caring for patients that she wouldn't trust with her dog.

Can Senators from California do him any good? This is nothing short of a damned atrosity. 'Course red tape will take months. Where are the damned stupid members of the press? Check on its' way to John.
