A.G. Russell Acies - first impression and pics.

:thumbup::)Thanks for the review!

Wow,That really disappears in the pocket!

I like everything about this knife & I'll definately have one in the next few months....if they don't sell out.

Looks real nice. do you feel it was worth the price ?

Hi goldie -

Yes, I do see where the money went in the knife.

It is hard to justify any knife costing this much, but this definitely has the quality to back up the price.

I am very happy with the purchase.

I learned four days ago that the knives DO NOT have the steel insert in the lock bar! Finally got in touch with the folks at Kershaw and learned that they were unable to make the steel insert work, that it would not unlock as well as the titanium face. I do not mind their making me the best possible knife, I just wish that they had let me know so I would not have put the wrong information in my catalog and on the net.

I'm confused. I see nothing in the description about any steel insert? What was this steel insert supposed to be or do? Is that what that divot is for on the inside of the lockbar?:confused::confused:

Hi Tony -

I don't see it on the web site description, so now I am unsure just where I saw it - perhaps in one of Mr. Russell's posts in the thread that was originally posted in the CRK forum.

The idea was that the lock bar would have a hardened end on it where it contacts the tang. I think the idea was that this would keep the lock bar from wearing on the tang, but perhaps someone who actually knows will answer that question for you.

At any rate - no biggie for me - still loving the knife. I cut a little cardboard with it this evening and as expected it sliced beautifully through it with no problem.

best regards -

This is killin me! Great thread. Gonna have to sell something quicklike. I gotta have one of these!! Yikes...

Such fantastic pics. Man, what a thread. You do realize how much trouble these pics are going to get me into, don't you? I'm talking divorce court. The poorhouse. Soup kitchen. Esav, ban me before it's too late!! Glockman. Spark. Someone ban me, fast!

Thanks for the info. Like you said, no biggie. Didn't even know that was supposed to be a feature.

I spent about 30 minutes each working this edge over on a red loaded strop then a green loaded strop. This ZDP is hard as hell. I got a little bit of sheen to the edge, but nowhere near polished yet. It's a laser right now though I tell ya.

Tony, this counter bore was for fixturing the handle during the machining process.

Thanks Thomas. I should have figured that.

Dont feel bad, callahan, i want one, too. if i add this to the sebenza & umnumzaan, it will be the last word in framelocks for me !i cant see anything else better than this trio for around the same price .....

mqqn, thanks for the pics and review. You've made this knife a very easy decision for me.

A G, Thomas, great knife! You've hit my sweet spot; Ti, ZDP, hollow grind, satin finish and a Hinderer stop. I love the way it vanishes in your pocket.

Most definably a winner at this price point.

Great work to come up with a classic knife!

It looks like a very sweet design.I was eyeballing that one in my last AG catalog, might have to pull the trigger.

Does this mean I can be in the Kershaw Mafia too? ;)

I love Kershaw knives and as soon as I found out that was who was producing them for Mr. Russell, that was it - I ordered that day.

I apologize to those who my pictures sent over the top (Mr. Callahan :D )

I thought the whole Kershaw thing killed it for you, Harry ;). Seriously, this is a fine knife and I applaud Mr. Russell for being so forthcoming with this information. Another + is his column in the Acies/Umnumzaan battle I've been fighting in my head recently.
