A.G. Russell Acies

I would have used high heat in the dryer, not hotter water in the wash. Less risk of corrosion. ;)

LOOKS LIKE THE wash water was way too hot and it shrank. Perfect smaller Acies.

The reason there will be no more of the large one is that we have to put our efforts and catalog space to new designs.

I look forward to seeing and trying out the smaller version but this one is working out really well for me. I'm a big fan of Titanium framelocks and love that they don't wear out your pants pocket (when both scales are Ti) even when used as a daily carry. Gotta say that my Acies seems to be getting smoother by the day and the blade snaps out so quickly now that I thought possibly the pivot had become loose but that is not the case.

I receive about a dozen or more 12X12" (and bigger) corrugated double walled cardboard boxes a week for my job and I've gone crazy on those boxes with the Acies and I'm extremely impressed with how well it slices up the thick cardboard and the blade has stayed shaving sharp. If I use my Stanley utility knife 2-3 boxes will dull a new blade to the point of being useless. I think that that Mr. Russell did a great job designing this blade and the ZDP-189 is holding its edge incredibly well.

Fine! My arm is being twisted. Officially saving for an Acies. Hope you sell them fast & are forced to reconsider. I'd love to see this become a mainstay with periodic variations to keep it interesting. I'll do my part.

We made about 700 of the Acies and have probably sold half of them. That is way too slow for us to repeat a knife. If we were even to think of repeating it would be with a lesser steel, like S30V. Most folks who make up the market for this knife are unwilling to pay the cost of ZDP or want to buy American but are not willing to pay the cost. This was a really expensive knife to make and while I have jumped into deep water before the present economy makes the risk deadly indeed. We are already committed to the small Acies, we have allocated titanium from our stocks to make, I think, 600 of them, if they sell out quickly we will continue them, if not, they will be like the large Acies, a limited edition.

Its a shame considering how many Sebenzas there are flying around and ZDP-189 is some good steel! Well, I sent a mail through on Friday enquiring about shipping out to me. Let me know...

I spent almost 2 hours today breaking down and slicing up cardboard boxes (some double wall) while rearranging two storage closets and I have little doubt now that the Acies is the best cutting/slicing knife that I own. I don't know if that is due to the blade shape and thickness or the ZDP-189 or both but frankly either way I'm happy. :D

I'm a big fan of S30V, it's what most of my folders use and its never given me any trouble and I do have to wait and see how the ZDP-189 holds up over the long haul but so far I'm very impressed. I'm going to have to really start saving as the next knife on my "must have" list is the Umnumzaan and now I'm thinking that I may need to try the smaller version of the Acies as well especially if they may end up being limited editions.

Hey AG, you might sell more of them if your sales staff respond to their emails. I've sent two now with no response...

I'm pretty sure that they close early on Saturday and are completely closed on Sunday, have you tried giving them a call? I believe they have a toll free number, I've emailed many an online only retailer and had it take a couple business days to hear back (not always) but if my question is about a sale I'm about to make I'll go ahead and call them with my question. IF you have time give them a call, I'm sure that they'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I recently watched a video on YouTube in which a T.V show host in Arkansas interviewed Mr. Russell and his wife and I believe they said that A.G. Russell "the company" sells something in the neighborhood of 100K items a year so they can't be too difficult to get in touch with. I'm sure that a huge part of those sales are from their sales catalogs but they've always been friendly whenever I've called with a question.

Best of luck.

I will Skype them tonight. I actually prefer calling most of the time but its a bit of a schlep because I am overseas so I have to call after hours. But I find that calling sure gets results!

We have 5-6 CS people through the week but no one of them knows of the small acies knife. I cannot believe that they got your emails, however, some one should have told you that thjey did not know what you were talking about.

I have not been in the office, I strained a tendon rushing to and fron the blade show from the hotel room and only began to walk around yesterday. I will be in the office today and will try to get you an answer. please do not call it would not help.

Actually I was enquiring about the regular Acies currently for sale. I sent mail to a couple of the addresses on your site. One from my gmail acct and one from my regular email cos sometimes the gmail ones get snagged by filters. Sorry to hear about your injury. This knife business can be hazardous to your health! :D

Soooo.....Mr. Russell , would the small Acies possibly be ready for your 2011 knife event. Or a few months mean just that. I'm allowed to wish :D

Wish for World Peace, it is fare more likely. If I approved the prototype as is it would be months before set up and production could be fit into a busy factory. I have issues, with the prototype, not large ones, but they must be addressed. I hope that it will be ready for the 2012 Blade show. Please wish for that.

You guys want to post any images of these knives? I'd love to see what we're talking about. :)
