A gentlemanly knife?

Good afternoon all,

I have a number of fantastic knives for normal daily carry. For example, for the last twenty years or so, I've carried the same Spyderco Police model, and recently added a ZT0350 and an unbelievably nice Pro-Tech TR-3.

What I am searching for, and looking for advice about, is a knife I can carry when I dress up. Given my corporate position, it's somewhat regular that I wear a suit, so I'm looking for something that looks fantastic, but doesn't break the bank. I'm thinking about the $200 range.

I've considered some of the stag horn type folders, but am more partial to something with cherry, cocobolo, or the like, preferably with nice filework on the spring.

This is clearly the best place to get some advice, so any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

B

Bump your price range up to $300 and get a mnandi! :)
or get a gayle bradley air.

I've been waiting for one to pop up on the exchange so I can snag one.

Head over to the Traditionals forum and enter the world of custom slip joints. I'm a new convert, and totally addicted. They are incredibly nice, more interesting and difficult to build than modern folding knives.

Cheers,
Daniel

Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air! This beauty is strong, lightweight, elegant and oozing quality!

How about a laguiole knife?

To me, nothing is more gentlemanly than a classy looking slipjoint.

Plus, a lot of manufacturers add some really nice filework and all manner of exotic woods and horns.

Get a Mcusta! VG-10 or Damascus and your choice of scales cocobolo, ebony, quincewood, etc. Very nice. They are between $100 and $200 for the most part

Check out MCusta knives. They run around ~$100-$200 and are mostly wood handled knives with more elegant features. I love my Tactillity, and find it very 'Gentlemanly'.

Also, check out the Henry Williams EDC line. Super classy at about $250.

The big thing about these four knives is that they all have decorative deep carry pocket clips, so they'll dissapear when you carry them and the clip looks good.

Use an opportunity and get Spyderco sprint run Caly 3 with carbon fibre and VG10 damascus blade!

It is quite possible that this thread is going to cost me thousands of dollars, but I'm strangely ok with that. SO many cool options! This seems to be a category of knives that doesn't get discussed as often as the tactical-type folders and fixed blades (of which I am also fond), so this is a fantastic discussion! Thanks and let's keep it going!

LOVE the pictures DoritoMonk and BellatorCordis!

I am also a big fan of damascus blades, I think they look very classy.

I like the Gayle Bradley Air very much--extremely light, extremely well-made, and wickedly sharp with a great steel. But I prefer something like a nice custom slip joint or a classy William Henry. Pictures:

WH would be a good option for you, as would Fallkniven (both already mentioned). Al Mar's classics would also make you feel special when you carry them. All of those mentioned are highly functional yet attractive and well made cutting jewelry. Or, if you want something unique, there are a lot of custom makers here on BF who would do you proud with one made just for you.

I usually carry my Al Mar Ultralight Hawk. Its the smallest of the ultralights. Small and unobtrusive, but still a very functional.

It's hard to beat a good slipjoint. Queen, Northwoods, Canal Street Cutlery... they make some pretty nice slippies that are classy enough and most definitely quality enough.
