A gentlemanly knife?

Either the Benchmade 480-1 Shoki or the 482 Megumi, both Nakamura designs made by BM here in the US, are my choices. The former has a 2.89" x .090" m390 blade with a slight hollow grind and CF scales; the latter has a 2.48" x .110" S30V flat ground blade with CF and cocobolo scales. Both have Ti liners, the Shoki's being blue-anodized, and their nicely done backspacer is a MIM product that looks great. Their Nak-Loc mechanism is nothing more than a button actuated liner lock - that functions quite well. The Shoki has a bit more distance between the thumb stud and pivot screw and a slight 'closed' detent, making it easier to open - not a pocket problem due to the included sheath (Which fits the Megumi, too... I removed the sheath mounted clip easily enough.). The shorter distance between thum stud and pivot, as well as a distinct closed detent, make it a difficult one-hander to open, no sheath coming with this model. Both have adjustable pivot screws and behave similarly with loosening/tightening said screw. The 482 Megumi's stouter but shorter blade makes it feel 'stronger' - it also weighs more than the longer, but thinner, bladed Shoki (1.85 oz vs 1.80 oz).

I also have the discontinued Kershaw 1993-2, a Japan-made VG-10 bladed lockback. K-guy did have some old stock of these - nice knife. I also finally got a CRK small plain Sebbie in S35VN - really nice. But - when I need a dress-up knife, I opt for one of the above pictured BMs - and mine were both bought new - from two different local stores - for <$300 total inc s/t! Fit & finish were closer to the Sebbie than you might think.... and they aren't 'plain', either! Some times it really pays to shop your local ma/pa stores...

I like the WH Carbon Fiber scaled knives. I found a CF Lancet for $200.
