A girly, well-built knife

my wife wont carry a knife because she's afraid of it getting loose in her classroom somehow, but I gave my brother's long time girlfriend a pink combo endura before they went to Yosemite and she loves it. If she wants something small id go Dragonfly or go long with a Caly3. I love lockbacks. Never had a problem, but I have had 2 linerlocks $40+ close on my trigger finger, a CRKT M16 doing something stupid(mostly my fault), and a MUCH more expensive Emerson that didn't lock properly.

So in my experience the lockback is safer than the linerlock, and Spyderco is the best value. H1 sharpens easily and can be cleaned effortlessly in a faucet.

a Calypso Jr is worth looking at. I'm more of a fixed blade guy but I have several spydercos if you want comparison pics.

Thanks for more ideas guys.

I did show her a picture of a yellow mini grip and she was super excited (especially about the color). She was just telling me she didn't think I should get her a knife because she wouldn't have a use for it or wouldn't carry it etc etc, then she fell in love :p

Thanks for the help, I'll probably use some of this advice on future purchases, because she may catch the bug when she gets her first decent knife :)

Actually girls do like yellow I forgot about that.

For my GF's sister's bday recently, I got her a mini survival kit, yellow paracord, yellow flashlight (fenix), yellow SAK

she liked it alot

Good choice. I got one of my exes a pink mini grip once (she loved pink stuff) and I dont think she ever touched it.
Moral of the story, dont count on her using it, and dont get your feelings hurt if your 50 bucks sit in a drawer somewhere.

Why do so many think that women want everything in PINK ??

Girl thing. The day you understand women fully, is the day you you can't get any wiser and have reached the peak level of human wisdom and understanding :D

Get a Spyderco, maybe an Endura? You can usually find them around 50 bucks. Plenty of handle colors and the endura blade shape, while not girly per se, isn't super aggressive or tacticool.

I agree with others about the pink griptillian. Another idea is the Spyderco pink Lum Chinese.

My wife wants pink knives until Tiffany and Co starts making locking folders....then she'd like a Tiffany blue one. No, I'm serious. It's cool that she likes knives and guns though, and asks that I keep her knives very sharp. It's funny when guys are trying to open a box or something and just lose it when she pulls out that pink mini grip.

If you really want to get her something cool get a tenacious or other g10 knife and make custom scales for it

There's no knife that's a "girls'" knife. Different girls like different knives, and that's that.

I bought my wife a dragonfly years ago- black handle, satin blade. She likes the size and doesn't worry about what it actually looks like.

My daughter wanted a knife a few years ago and I was thinking something like the Dragonfly. She picked out a black mini-grip with black blade. And then I just recently gave her a new green sprint run Tenacious for her birthday. It's a little big and heavy for a girl to carry in her purse but I thought she might use it for other things plus it is slightly collectible.

Considering the low budget of the OP I would suggest (already did suggest) a Dragonfly, but also Kershaw has a lot of nice knives at good prices such as the OD-1 and Crown.

A Victorinox Climber works well when sheeple are about. If she's around people who are particularly jumpy around blades, the scissors is an acceptable compromise. Different coloured scales can be purchased online for cheap and can be replaced easily, so she can carry any colour her mood dictates. Plus, the toothpick can clean under her fingernails and the tweezers can pull eyebrow hairs quite well. For around $25, it's a great value.

It's Swiss, so you can even throw in a box of Swiss chocs along with it for that "Swiss experience".
