(I've posted this first part before and find it still stands, save for my now hesitating to choose one favorite knife-- what was I thinking?!-- and thus amending number 2.)

A few things I’m grateful to this forum for, in no particular order:

1) Pictures: In addition to the photographs you all so freely offer up all the time, so many of you graciously respond when I ask to see (further) pictures of the knives or features you mention along the way. I really appreciate that! I gain so much from being able to see real-life shots that enhance or belie standard company descriptives and “official” photographs, demonstrate the visual difference between features and knives, etc.

Not only that, but being a member here has motivated me to take more pictures myself, and not just of knives. (Imagine.) I am grateful for the continual inspiration to keep my camera handy and use it.

2) GEC. I’d not heard of this company, let alone seen any of its knives before discovering this forum. I love what this company is doing, and how.

3) Our international members, and the different perspectives and experiences from which they share their knives and stories.

4) Knowledge, humor, and inspiration, in so many forms, the latter most certainly including the generosity of members here to share not only their insights but actual knives.

+--+--+--+--+

And now, The Giveaway. Before, I gave away a knife of more universal appeal. This time, I’m giving away something that might not be for everyone, but which I happen to love-- a GEC #25.

Once upon a time, Finedges posted this picture:

Finedgesebony.jpg

I gasped in that certain swoony way some of you might recognize upon seeing a knife that hits a previously unidentified sweet spot.

Then this happened:

Months down the road, I still gasp at Finedge’s picture whenever I see it, then remember that I have my own little ebony #25 and resume breathing.

Today, I fired up the Pocket Knife Replicator® once more, and this happened:

IMG_5059.jpg

(The Replicator® evidently specializes in this particular knife. Go figure.)

Therefore: A Giveaway, the winner to receive this new GEC #25, a great little pattern boiled down to its essence-- all steel, no shield, no blade etch, ebony.

Rules:

One entry per person; your post number is your entry number.

If you are a regular contributor here, an “I’m in” is sufficient, although more would be great. If you can readily think of something you enjoy about hanging out here, please share it. Or a picture. Or something funny. Or something. (Flying Guillotine, I'm still laughing about tiny donkey.)

If you do not often post regularly but read and enjoy the goings-on here in Traditional, please do share something that you’ve learned or enjoy or keeps you coming back.

If you scan Traditional only to catch Giveaways, and your primary contributions to the forum consist of posts to the effect of, “I’m in,” then to enter this giveaway would be unbecoming. If you ignore this and enter anyway, you’ve already lost. Also you won’t win the knife.

International members are welcome, as long as the USPS safely delivers to your location-- meaning, once the USPS drops the package into your native mail system for final delivery, it’s not the equivalent of writing Steal Me on the box.

I’m going to run this one quickly, with the winner chosen early this coming Monday afternoon (12/17; Eastern Standard Time).

Good luck!

Wonderful!! Can I have the replicator, instead of the knife if I win?? Hmmm??

Not an entry (I already have one), but a huge thanks for keeping the spirit alive!!

Thanks for the opportunity!
Im in!
I too am a huge GEC fan, so there's no way i could pass this one up.

Not an entry but a thank you...Well done, Sarah.

I'm definitely in. Not really a big poster on the traditional sub forum, but I do love traditionals, just never really buy new ones. Love reading the sub forum.

Thanks for the chance.....found GEC on the forum and a 23 was my first GEC. I have the 2012 BF folder in the pocket today...and most days...

That's a really lovely little knife. I spend a lot of time going through the traditional forum posts because pretty much any information I need is on here, sharpening/maintaining/modifying traditional knives, how to find the right date from different eras, what faults to watch out for in a particular brand or model.

Most importantly, if I'm looking at a knife and need that little bit of extra motivation to be pushed into another crazy impulse purchase, then there are plenty of good people here, and always a few dedicated threads on the model, to convince me to spend the money that I really should be spending on more practical things ;)

I'm in, thank you for your generosity, P

I love this place for so many reasons, I can't nail 'em all down, but I will name a few.

-I love how everyone is willing to help each other out in these parts of the forum; there is much respect and kindness that floats around that I haven't been able to find anywhere else on this site. I never ceases to amaze me how willing we are to answer each others questions and teach each other, no matter how trivial a question may seem.

-I love how much information that is shared between us all and how much it shows in due time. I mean, I wouldn't know anything about quality knives or what makes a good knife until I showed up here. Before my love for slippies was rekindled, I thought that super thick, indestructible blades were the best around. Only now can I appreciate thin blades and edge geometry, simpler steels (as opposed to all the super steels I was obsessed with), sleek lines, subtle beauty and the no-nonsense of these traditional styles. Heck, I couldn't sharpen worth a darn if it weren't for the traditional forum either!!!!

-The forum has inspired me to try new things and gain the confidence to tinker with things like fixing up my grandpa's Opinel, reprofiling blades and taking apart SAK's. I still have a lot to learn, but that's why I love being here.

A few milestones:

My first traditional

My first real modification

My current project for my Grandpa (his present this year)..pins aren't long enough, it looks done, but I need new pins

Oh man I have been longing after those knives of yours and Mike's for a long time. I would love to have one of these. Very generous P and thanks for the chance.

That's a great offer. I'd like to partake.

I am pretty new to BF, but have already learned so much! At first I was in awe of the cool folders that I never even knew existed. Then I one day clicked on the traditional forum and was blown away at how beautiful most of these knives are. Then looking up the history about some of the ones you guys have posted, is so insanely insteresting to me!

You guys continue to amaze me every day with the high quality pictures and posts and conversations. You make me laugh every day

Most important thing I've learned : The different blade shapes, sizes, and what they all do. I posted a thread asking why they make a knife with different shape blades. I had about 20 of you guys reply almost instantly with the greatest advice and answers.

Thanks, Adubbz

ohh me ohh my! I've been trying to keep my cool these days, keeping my head out of these giveaway threads, but this is just irresistible!

I am in, if you'll have me! :D

Thanks Sarah! You're a great member of the community! Not an entry please.

The down home country atmosphere here, whether US or other country, is really refreshing. When I can't stand the news and things get irritating I get my EDC out of my pocket and drag out a few more and just sit back relax and look at the pics read the personal anecdotes and dream of new knives that I can't afford but would love to have a chance to handle and use. I love that ebony and GEC. Their knives are out of reach to me for the present. I'm in. Thanks for your generosity. Happy New Year to you!

Well, that model 25 ebony barlow is just too juicy to pass up. I would like to enter your give away.

I just throw all mine a drawer and let nature take its course.

I'd love to be included. Thanks for thinking of all of us. I hang out here in the traditional area because they are my main knife lust object. I also love the great photos from our members all over the world. I've really learned a bunch about slipjoints since starting to hang here, and for that I thank you all.

Wow - that´s a generous GA, Sarah!

I really like those little #25 Barlows and I´ve been looking for one already for a long time. This year I got a great gift from you. I´d like to give an other member the chance getting this knife. So not an entry, for me.
This is the great knife I got from you. And I really carry it frequently.

I too, wouldnt mind getting the replicator:eek:

Very very tempting!!!

But alas, please, NOT AN ENTRY...

since coming to these parts, I am so very gratefull for some of the interactions with fellow traditional folks, and even made a few friends.
Learned a ton, and enjoyed the exposure of some regional knives from our bretheren abroad.
Discovered GEC...
Also have been the recipient of some unexpected, and much apreciated generousity, which still amazes me.
The list could go on and on...much like your infinity replicator machine ;)

In a trade with Railsplitter, he tossed this little gem into the box because he figured that I might like it...
I was blown away when I opened up the box and found this in it:

IMG_2574.jpg

This little knife rides in my watch pocket every day, and is a constant reminder of how much folks can surprize you...
and how great this little corner of the world is...

Thank You Sarah, for being part of this place, and for such a fine GAW...

P.,
as you already know, I'm not entering your giveaway......but I'm not losing the opportunity to thank you.
You and I became part of this subforum more or less at the same time, and aside from your love and interest for knives, I always enjoyed your humour and funny pictures. thank you for being a part of this. :)
Sidenote: if you can lend me the Replicator, and Elliott allows me a couple hours in his knife closet, I'd be a happy man :D
